Armor Compensation skills

Hi there, so the wording of these 4 skills,

Quote:
5% bonus to EM resistance per level for Armor Coatings and Energized Platings

would suggest that levelling them to V would give you 25% extra resistance on energized platings, making them as good as Armour Hardeners. I left all 4 damage types to level up to 3 and found that they don't add 15% resistance on to the modules.

Experimental Energized EM Membrane I has 32.5% EM resistance in my hangar, when fitted to the ship it gives me 37.375%, when I expected something like 47.5%. What gives? Is there some other penalty that comes in to effect?

If anyone can explain then thanks in advance :)

The 5% applies to the base resist of the mod itself.

In your case, 5% of that module = 1.625 per level

The math works out. At level V you would have 40.625% resists

As with ever bonus, it is being multiplied (not added) with the base value, which is 32,5% in this case. At level 3 the bonus is 15% which yields: 32,5% * 1,15 = 37,375%

Oh I see... I wish I'd just levelled Hull Upgrade to V for T2 hardeners now! Roll

While they're not high on the priority list armor comps 5 are good skills to get eventually, especially considering the last unstacking 5% is worth a lot more than the first few. You generally only really notice it on large buffer fits though which usually only helps in pvp situations.

You have to use A-Type Passive hardeners and level the skill to 5 for them to be better than T2 hardeners and then they are .625% better than T2 and don't use any capacitor and the skill also affects EANMS.

EANMs -> the real reason to train this skill

For shield comps -> no reason to train the skills, they don't help the omni tank module, and for specific holes you should fit a hardener.

I'm still PO'd about that removal of passive bonuses to the active modules

Amen. I still find myself using resist amps, but... still. What a ******** change.

Yes, I find myself using the EM and Th passive amps for a travel fit since they are always on... but my kinetic and explosive shield comps -> useless, utterly useless.

I would have been happy if they made the skills also affect rigs as a compromise*, but they didn't.

*Not that I would fit such rigs for Exp and Kin shield resists**, but the gain in utility to the EM and Th skills would be enough that I'd view the set of changes, as a whole, favorably.
** I suppose if I was wealthy enough to have multiples of certain ships, each rigged a different way - then I might consider a ship with such resist rigs for use against specific rats - a shield tanked mach with Exp and Kin resist rigs, getting 1.25x modifiers from skills (43.75% resists from T2 rigs), for use against angels = free mid slots for better damage application, faster completion times = OK, I'd consider it)
