1. Never fly what you cannot afford.

2. Be bold, and try everything, sometimes you'll die but capsuleers are immortal, just remember to update your medical clone!

3. Be kind to others. Everyone is fighting their own battles, if you blow them up let them know it was a good fight. Blink

Alright, top 3 tips to newbies?

1. I feel like I should write this whole bit in caps it's that important but I won't because it's really annoying. So listen carefully... Your biggest, most expensive ship sucks at pvp. Simple... There are some exceptions but this problem is widespread among eve newbies. Usually it's a drake, sometimes a CN Raven. Just because it tears through your level 2 missions does NOT mean it will kill that gang of wartargets or break up a pirate gatecamp that just blew u your badger. Don't use it - when it comes to pvp start cheap, die often.

2. Die a lot. I don't understand the fear of losing, especially in eve. You're a capsuleer, superior to every other living being because of your near invincibility. Why cower in station shaking in your pod-fluid because people want to hurt you? Keep your implants cheap, take the occasional fight you know you're going to lose, show some balls. If your ship kills > losses then you're probably doing pvp wrong. Believe it or not.

3. If you want to be loved eternally for your pvp skills, get good at the things other people suck at. Flying logistics, combat scanning, being primary tackle or scouting or interdiction, fleet commanding. Most of these things take practice, you won't get good overnight - the best plan is when you're out in a fleet look for people who are good at these roles and pick up hints from them, similarily watch for people who are bad in these roles (you'll see this a lot, even in elitist pvp corps) and try to avoid making their mistakes.

Oh, and have fun!!!!

1. Navigation based skills (especially Evasive Manuvering and Navigation) are really nice early on and is a small tech branch. They help regardless of which ship you pilot in either PVE or PVP. The Int/Per also doesn't fall in either the main Per/Wil or Int/Mem branches so is also good for a pre-remap or rookie balanced remap.

2. When missioning to raise empire faction focus on a single npc corporation. You can do higher level missions within that corporation if your standings meet the requirements even if the empire standings are not high enough. Focusing on a couple of corporations also helps you focus your LP for better stuff. Once you are doing level 4 missions your Empire standings will rise faster and you will be able to do missions in all corporations in that empire.

3. The Assets button on the Neo Com can be useful in many ways if you have random items in your important locations. I find it easier to use than the People and Places button and you can order your locations based off of distance. This can be really nice when you are trying to figure out which systems are next to which and to get your general bearings in the game.

1. If you're going to losec, to pick up a cheap buy for example, or as a tourist, do not go in your best ship. Buy a shuttle and take that, and expect it to get blown up and you to be pod-killed.

2. Do not go into a rage or depression if you are apparently arbitrarily ganked for no reason. It doesn't matter. You're immortal, and you can buy another ship in a few days at most.

3. Join the awesome HelpMyMission channel. It's added to my enjoyment of the game no end.

1. Join RvB or E-Uni to gain a foundation, one with many benefits.

2. Don't buy experience, you just cheat yourself. (e.g. buying a high SP character, expensive ships you don't know how to fly well)

3. Adapt or Die...or at least take a break if EVE becomes more chore and less game.

1) If anyone ever tells you that you need a certain amount of SP or money before doing PvP, kick them directly on the head of their penis.

2) Maintain a high level of situational awareness at all times.

3) Never, under any circumstance, ever, shoot a plus or a rock.

1: Eve is a PvP orientated game, PvP can and will happen to you when you least expect it.
2: Consider your ship dead as soon as you undock, consider docking in it again a bonus.
3: If you explode, ask the person who exploded you how you could have avoided it.

Unless it's a blue square with a white plus inside it, shoot those for maximum hilarity and butthurt.

In the beginning there was nothing, which exploded.

1) other's ideas of how you have to play the game or else you are a failure are just that, opinions. Take it under advisement then make your own choices as to how you want to have fun.
2) people out there will go out of their way to ruin your day. Beware, be cynical, question everything, and suspect everyone.
3) people out there will go out of their way to help you. Embrace them, thank them, respect them, emulate them.

1) Don't expect everything to be handed to you on a silver platter. Patience. Things take time to train, and you probably won't be able to walk through the thing you're doing first go. Take your time.

2) Expect to lose your ship. EVE is a PvP game. You have to understand that you can (and will at somepoint) lose a ship, even when you are least expecting it. (You should always expect it).

3) Never fly something you cannot afford to lose. As a new pilot, this will usually result in make or break. AKA should I stay in the game or not?

It's human nature to want to explore. To find your line and go beyond it. The only limit, is the one you set yourself.
