Hey guys, I'm looking to get a tablet PC that can run EVE Online! I have been eyeing the Razor Edge Pro pretty closely but am wary of the gameplay + price tag combo. Has anyone else attempted this perhaps on a different high-end tablet? What was your experience like? Note I don't have to have everything maxed out, I just need to be able to get on, change skills, change starbases, not really for PvP though if it works well I won't rule it out Pirate
Thanks guys!

Please let us know how it works out for you.

See Bio for isk doubling rules. If you didn't read bio, chances are you funded those who did.

I'm not 100% sure on the tablet side but if it isn't running windows or apple...not sure about Linux then you would not be able to use a tablet because it's on a different OS then the EVE code is written on.

And even though many tablets claim you can run "games" on them I'd watch out with EVE I'd imagine it would burn out a tablet no problemo.

Take the "required OS" info off the EVE download site and run down to a real computer store and ask.

What is the purpose of a tablet?

Is it so you can feel like you are in Star Trek?

The primary purpose will be as a quick access to word processing, personal cloud access, and overall mobile access point to data manipulation on a manageable level. I, however, am willing to spend the extra dollar to add low to mid range gaming capabilities. I build my own PCs and networks and travel a lot and this will act as my fix for me being away from home for a couple days to a couple weeks.

I have an iPad (original lol) and am familiar with the 3 different OS's mentioned and have noted it will most likely have to be a Windows tablet to best fit my needs to include basic gaming. And yes, I love the Star Trek feeling ;D

I believe Eve Online should work on any of the higher end Windows tablets but am not sure of gameplay. For example: zooming in and out works by pinching? FPS on low settings? That kinda stuff Cool

Still dont know why you would want to do these things on something without a keyboard or that can fit in your pocket

And cloud storage is for suckers

Watching netflix at work. That's all I use mine for, or used to. I found that using my iphone works just as well, and alot less bulky. Anyone want to buy a ipad 2?

Also mobile games suck for the most part. I keep a Vita in my backpack and leave the ipad at home. Only thing I really play on the Vita is Plants v Zombie. Vita version rocks!

Do not assume anything above this line was typed by me. Nerf the Truth, it's inconvenient.

i know there are threads from surface pro owners saying it is usable. they recommend the keyboard and a mouse.
I like the surface rt for more general stuff, but of course no eve on it so I was looking at the ultrabook machines that convert to a tablet form factor. Lenovo has one, and I thought I remember seeing a few others but haven't looked too deep into reviews just yet. Something like that may be a bit better of an option since they are generally a bit more powerful then most of the win8 tablets that use the atom processors.

I partially agree that cloud storage is for suckers, what I mean by personal cloud access is streaming data stored on my home server via VPN. I do want to use a keyboard and mouse with this but I need quick access for typing stuff up at work that I can take home (Work has it's own network and is a pain in the ass to move files to and from home). I do have the galaxy S3 which is great for quick notes but I need papers if you will on something smaller then a laptop. Games is a bonus :)

Thanks, I'll have to look for those threads and see what they have to say about the Surface Pro and others.

I've personally had some success playing EvE on a Nexus 7. Main issues that I run up against are a lack of screen resolution. Everything is very cramped on screen and i've certainly not considered any kind of pvp combat under these conditions.

To get this working, I'm using Splashtop THD (desktop streaming client) to stream from my gaming rig, with an OTG cable plugged in to a Wireless Keyboard and Mouse combo dongle plugged into the Nexus. This can be used both locally or remotely through Splashtop as long as the Internet connection you are on is sufficiently good. I'm not sure i'd bother trying to invest in anything that can run it native as that is likely to be pretty expensive and not really have the resources to do the game justice anyways.

There was a thread a little while ago about some guy playing EvE on his surface pro. Try googling/eve searching for it.

Yeah, Splashtop is pretty cool, I've got a blog about it if you wanna see some screens of it in action, I ought to update really since i've started using the OTG: http://technofail.co.uk/splashtop-gamepad-thd/

As per the above I've played Eve on my iPad 2 using Splashtop. Can be a bit jumpy so not really great for combat and sometimes it can be frustrating when it will not do quite what you want to do (re-sizing windows within Eve is a PITA) but useful for doign some stuff.

"Yeah, so there I was in fleet with the Bomber's Bar. We were cloaked off the gate waiting. I swiped the screen to move to my browser. Next thing I know, I'm decloaked, launching a bomb and decloaking the other 30 bombers like a chain reaction just as a fleet landed. 10 fleet mates die to my bomb and most of the rest were tackled and blobbed.....it was a tragic day....oh the humanity!!!"

I read the title as "Toilet Gaming with EVE", and came in expecting a discussion of laptop EVEing while on the Porcelain Throne.

Left dissapointed
