Must kill encroaching Explorers, build suggestions needed.

Background: I'm an old school player and recently returned, again. I've decided to live life on the fringe. Solo, low sec. I've quite literally lived in the same system for years and made an decent living off of exploration and general carebear activities. I've pirated for years however and know the basics.

Problem: Now that exploration is relevant and easy, I'm losing sites to various explorers throughout the day/night. I want to send a message to others and let them know this system's exploration prospects are mine.

Solution: Kill the explorers.

Due to my downtime, I'm struggling with how to handle this. T3 is out of the question. I will be hunting T1/2 frigs with low to no offense/defense. So I'm thinking a T2 ship decked out for war should be sufficient. I fly Minnie, but can pilot most Amarr and some Gallente.

Since I'm alone, I know I'm at a disadvantage. I'm struggling between Covert Ops Frigs/Force Recon since cloaked warp is crucial.

Primary objective would be to do this as cheaply as possible, since money comes in sporadically. I have no problem making something work vs. spending double for effortless kills, it sort of my mantra. Again, I've been playing for a long time so I have excellent ship/gunnery skills.

I'd appreciate some ideas/builds/experience if you have any. Due to the nature of the subject I will gladly accept mail both here and in game.

Thanks.

when you find a nice system, scan out the sites, go park there with your recon n cloak - I do this with my alt - continue to play with your main and check often to see who's on the line

most show up without a clue you could even possibly be there - in a combat site wait till they have the room cleared or nearly cleared since for some reason the rats hate recons.

Kill them, repeat as necessary, soon that person will not enter a site in the system your character is in *(or will bait you with 10 of his friends on the gate in the next system)

I am sure others may come up with better ideas *(am hoping) so I can implement them too Lol

If this were Nul, or a WH, I'd say 'Bomber Up.'
Dropping a bomb on an explorer who's about to start opening cans may not (probably won't) kill them, but is will make 'em download, if you know what I mean. Plus there's a decent chance you'll vape any free-floating cannisters.
A kill isn't strictly necesasry - you want them to leave, and if being bombed does the trick, that's good enough.

Actually, come to think of it... In Hi- and Lo-Sec droping out of cloak, firing off a few volleys of missiles or torps, and vanishing again may do the trick anyway. Plus it allows you to troll the hell out of them.

Tell someone you love them today, because life is short. But scream it at them in Esperanto, because life is also terrifying and confusing.

Great suggestions, brought a smile to my face thinking about nabbing these b*tches Twisted

The more I think about it, I wouldn't mind taking their ship as well. I'm a solo act, so the money would certainly be appreciated.

I can immediately pilot a Hound, but I question it's effectiveness on frigs and cruisers. Again, my only experience with torps was ages ago against battleships so I have no clue if or how they work against small ships. My missile skills are moderate.

Looking forward to more dialog on this.

If you mean the hacking sites:
Pre-mark the sites, leave a crappy can and fit a duel scram/MWD hookbill. It's fast enough to get on them before they warp out and the 2 scrams defeat the stabs they are fitting. That's what I'm using anyway and I'm making more off the sister launchers than the sites.

DED plexes? Pilgrim works good for me just make sure there aren't a bunch of rats that will switch to you before ya decloak.

Edit: If you're using a hound misfit it with scrams and autocannons like a normal frig with a cloak since 99% of the assplorers aren't using anything with a tank.

This.

Exploration more or less requires 2 highs and 4 mids so all you can really do is stick some stabilizers on there, but none of the covops have >3 lows so dual scrams will do the tricks. Anything without a cloak tends to be ineffective because the cans are so well spaced.

The more cautious explorers will just pass on the system if there's anyone in local (especially if there's no station) and if not will check your killboard/ect. before making a decision. Some will bring a bomber or something else cloaky in tow to pop competition.

As already mentioned, we're most reliably distracted after the can spew. Some will actually align after the first can in ass-clenching anticipation though.

Fair warning, you're not going to keep explorers out of your system if that's really your goal. They just have no reason to care about borders and/or take a consistent route. A nice honeypot (depending how deep your are) is likely more profitable than actually exploring though.

Edit: Catching ninja-plexers is a different beast entirely, but I don't think Odyssey has really bolstered their numbers any?

Well, as of right now I don't have a ship for the job. Others had suggested a Hound and that intrigued me. Funny you should mention honeypot. My system, while occupied by several Pirate POS is rarely active, and when it is, it's on my off hours (Yay Europe). So I essentially have a honeypot, exploration-wise.

So far the suggestions that really clicks with me is camping a site cloaked. Warping cloaked is huge and the Stealth Bomber (Hound) seems to be a very nice choice.

My only concern is can 1 or 2 volleys actually kill an explorer's frig? I've never attempted it but my gut says no. At that point it almost makes sense to go with the Cheetah which actually has some offensive turret bonus', unless I'm incorrect?

Your instincts are good.
I'm usually OK with chasing interlopers out of my WH, and don't much care about the kills. 'Tails-tucked-an'-runnin'' is good enough for me.

Otherwise, the Cheetah is a good call.

An SB using t2 rocket launchers and faction ammo will pop most explorer frigs (t1 or t2) very nicely.

You could get away with meta 4 rocket launchers if your not able to use the t2's, but they will probably cost more.

Fit scrams/webs in the mids, the usual BCS t2's in the lows, and you will teach them to fear the night.....Pirate

As for rigs, anything that ups your damage, of course.

Everything in EVE is a trap.

And if it isn't, it's your job to make it a trap...:)

I LOVE these defenseless explo newbs. Piracy is relevant again! I use an SB fit like a frig with 2xscrams, blasters, probe launcher, no prop mod, no tank. Just sneak into the site and wait for them to start on the final can. That way if they refuse to pay my ransom Iget a maximum loot drop. I also use a sensor booster so there is no question that I will insta-lock a pod. These jokers are running around with prospector plugs @ around 50m isk so it make for a better ransom than the ship.

3-4 volleys with void in neutron blasters will do the trick just fine

I would pick any SB over covert ops as SB has that nice bonus of -100% decloacking targeting delay.
You have to bump with Cheetah.

Yeah no doubt. I've finally decided on going SB, it has too many slick bonus' that would make my job a lot easier and seems a lot more fun. Plus it gives me an excuse to join Bomber's Bar Big smile

Why Rockets over Light or Heavy missiles?

My immediate plan was to fit a painter, but is the dps on rockets better vs. light/heavy when fired on these squishy frigs?

rapier, hands down best for what you want to do.
probe all sigs in you system and when you see an exploration frig in any of those wait for them to be distraced by the minigame and drop the hammer.

That's the plan if I make some goot loot off of these kills, or I drive them out to the point where I can rake in cash via sites.

SB seems to be the most pocket friendly with easy accessability, if I decide to take this show on the road in null sec I'd get a Rapier.

Light missiles have range, but Rockets have RoF.
Stealthed-up, you should be able to coast inside effective rocket range more often than not.

I've never tried Rockets on an SB, but I put them on my Assault Frigates all the time. T2 Rocket Launchers work like chainsaws against most firgates.
