been pondering on this for awhile, and come up with a simple system for ship crew experience, now this is a base suggestion, so it is offcourse up for modification, all ships need a certain number of crew points...

Frigate 1p. Destroyer 2p. Cruiser 4p. Battlecruiser 6p, Battleship 12p, Carrier/Dread 24p

Crews gets experince only for the time its undocted, Crews Start out as Green, after a X amount of time they become Regular, after 3X time they become Veteran, and with 9X time they become Elite.

To make things simple, as long as crews is in their ships and undocket they gain experience, the training timer stops when docking, and would start again when undocking. If a crew point is moved outside of a ship, The experience time reverts back to its gained level. Crew points can be added, split apart, as long as its of same experience level. but moving a crew outside of a ship, if its half way between for example Regular and Veteran, would make it needed to start timer all ower from Regular.

So what would the crews do, well a green crew wouldent do anything, a Regular crew would get 2points to place in the fields below, but no field above one, a Veteran crew would get four points to place in the fields below, but not more then two points in anyone field, a Elite crew would get 8points to place in the fields below, but not more then three in anyone field. how much or how little these field would influence, ill leave unsaid, but my personal feeling is that it should be alittle like hard wires, alittle extra, but not anything massive, also it give each capsular, the ability to tweak their ships alittle, focusing their crews on difrent tasks

Defence
Drones
Electronics
Electronic warfare
Engineering
Logistics
Offence
Navigation
Mining

This would also create a market for crews, they can be trained, and then be sold on the open market, creating anouther money sink, or a gain for those that takes the time to keep them alive. The system is fairly simple, but adds flavour and abit more flexibility between ships, also it give abit of realism to the crews that are with us in the ships, we might allways get back, but our poor crews mostly go down with the ship and is lost

Well, its a idea, flame away Blink

Before someone says it rudely and someone else flames you, I'll say it in a somewhat civilized manner.

This is not the first time this has been suggested, nor is it the second or even the third time. A proper forum search would have been your trustworthiest ally, but now you have ventured into the forest alone.

Also, no to unnecessary power creep and more micromanagement.

It's been heavily discussed in the past. No thanks.

Park a BS somewhere out of the way, go to work, come back to an elite crew.

Sounds fun. Roll

It sounds like you'd enjoy playing Star Trek Online. They have less focus on the player and more on the crew compared to EVE.

If Chribba told you not to trust him, would you?

So I fill my ship with a green crew... undock & orbit the station.... go to work.... ....sell em for mad duckets!

Sorry but you need to think these things through a little more.

We learn things in Eve with time, the system is simplified, yes, but as long as you are undocket, you are possible to interact with, and thus you can be ganked, this said my only concearn is cloakers Roll, maybe add while a cloak is operational, training timer stops, but in any case, price will allways be subject to demand and supply, so its really a self regulating system

as for doing things while at work, its not a uncommon feature in eve, like mining, R&D, PI, its ment to be abstract and simple, a small feature, and iwe given it a fairly good thought, and as said, if crews are to easy to make, compared to the numbers destroyed, then there wont be any mad duckets, now would there ?

In any case, you like it or you dont, seems in this case, so far more dont

My point, which i think you have slightly missed, is that this suggestion lends itself to generating something of value while being online and active in space... but it does not need human input. Thus instead of logging off, its more beneficial for every player to leave ships in space (cloaked or tanked and orbiting a station, etc)

While this may be great for CCPs players online statistics, it does not lend itself to good gameplay.

The training of ship crew becomes a fully automated process, with people AFKing in safespots or orbiting stations while at work, using it as semi-passive income. There quickly becomes enough highly-trained crew available that every ship can be fully manned with a top-level crew and we're right back where we already are.

Anything that increases your ship's abilities will cease to be flavorful and start to become an additional required hoop to jump through before you can compete with others reasonably.

Wrong, they properly evacuate before ship explodes... at least they are trying to. Read the wiki.

Opinions are like assholes. Everybody got one and everyone thinks everyone else's stinks.
