Crime & Punishment

The deception was simple-destroy a corpmates hauler with fake loot inside. This was easy to accomplish, but I shant be sharing our secrets just yet. Suffice to say it is the old "Plex in a box" with a new twist. Our bait was perfectly positioned, and we had just killed an Orca who had his fingers in the cookie jar.

Comms crackled to life with staccato voices filling the air. "Darius DARIUS log your Jita alt on-WE HAVE TACKLED AN ANSHAR!! Please tell us you have a ship close to the Perimeter gate!!!"

I was stunned as my mind tried to grasp the situation, reeling through the possibilities. I thought it was likely a troll in retribution for the legion of times I have said things like: "Point on the Obelisk!" Then fleetmates would ask-did you say point on an Obelisk? and I would answer "No I said whats the point of an Arquebus?" Or I would troll with "Point on Rorqual!" Did you say Rorqual pointed? "No I said the point was RHETORICAL". So I thought this was payback for trolling them in a similar manner.

But the stressed tones and anxiety were genuine.Part of the deception is to name your wreck "Eve Uni Anshar" this makes the occasional Freighter/JF pilot think he can scoop the wreck. Freighters can loot other freighter wrecks, but not any other type.However if they even TRY to look a wreck-even though they can't-they still get aggro for their attempted violation of our sovereign property.

Which brings us to the Greed part. It seems as this particular JF Pilot saw something in our bait wreck and decided to help himself. He tried to steal the package, turned red and jumped through the gate. We had a few poeple on the other side waiting. He was immediately scrammed, bumped and webbed. That was the situation I landed on in my Cane.

I bumped the guy a bit, but he was making progress towards the gate. He was in 80% structure but very close to the gate. I continued to bump and I didnt agress as I would be the only tackle left. As he approached the gate, hopes were high-we would get him. Then he jumped. I saw it quite clearly myself. Then I jumped into perimeter behind him.

At this point things got a little weird. He never appeared in Perimeter local. We waited and checked local. Nope-not online-no Anshar on either side of the gate. Hmmmmm. We waited on both sides scratching our heads about how he could have disappeared. Then he reappeared right where he was. Very strange. So we started shooting him again. Now all three of us were agressed on the gate frantically trying to bump him off.

Things took a turn for the worse-the scum that makes up Jita local started bumping him to the gate-and my heart sank as he jumped through and into freedom as we all were agressed.

A corpmate who had added him to watch list broke the bad news: "He logged after he jumped" We were crushed. But then something clicked-he still had his aggro timer from his attempted theft! QUICK QUICK GET A PROBER NOW!!!!!! NOW! NOW! WHO IS DOING IT??? Then silence. I was mortified because most of the characters in the corp we used were noobish alts. Then a voice rang out-I am getting probe ship. WE ARE SAVED!!! HURRY MAN HURRY!

As the prober announced his jumpin, I saw a message "Mental Dog Criminals won't be tolerated etc etc Caldari space." Oh NOOOO Our prober was -2.2 Sec in a 1.0. We are undone! WARP WARP WARP ANYWHERE DROP PROBES. I saw our Cheetah warp clear and three probes dropped out first...Our prober-much to his credit was able to probe out the Anshar while on the run from the Caldari Police

Which brings us to the loss portion of todays tale. We warped to our pilot before he died to the Factin cops, and immediately started the DPS We managed to kill the Anshar before the timer wore off. I had 12 prices of Fleet Emp left and the Drake had three missiles per launcher when it popped.

Had the pilot simply warped off in Perimeter, he would have lived. But he chose to ignore the fact that he had an aggro timer to my corp for the theft. Other than the 4Bn killvalue of the Anshar itself-he also dropped us 3000 Hammerhead II's. Should be enough to fund another week of wrecks to bait with.

If you are familiar with how we used to bait-and the slippery mechanics of how to make the wreck semi-permanent, you know that CCP "Stealth Nerfed" the mechanic. What they did was to make courier contracts just magically "Disappear" from game when the wreck they are in gets salvaged. Luckily for us they double botched the job on this nerf.

In the first 2 hours of baiting we killed 20 or so guys including a 1 Bn Orca, Domi, Scimi, three Transports and some others.
