Save user settings on server and not on computer!

What I have been fed up of lately is if a client corruption happens, or if your computer bugs up and you have to erase data.

Why should you have to lose all your UI, channel and overview settings which you've spent hours working on to make it suit you?
If these settings was saved on server, this situation wouldn't be happening. It takes me a long time to put my settings the way I like it, and I end up losing it all if a corruption happens.

If you need to go on another computer due to your computer breaking, you don't have your UI settings, you have to make it all up the way you want it on that computer.

Characters and stuff are saved on servers, why not UI settings?

So what I am saying is to do this to fix this issue and why its not been done yet?

Number 1 rule with computers: Backup!

That being said these used to be stored server-side but to decrease loading times they were moved some years ago to client side. Copy the cache and settings folders if you don't do a full back up and you'll never lose them again.

But instead of backing up all the time? What about client issues which cause you to lose everything? Client bugs especially.

For example in EVE, if you had to clear your settings + Client folder, you lose all your UI and overview set up and all that sort of stuff. Computer Backup does not prevent that from happening.

Another issue here:

I run three to five accounts on four clients on two screens and one laptop. Each client and screen is setup differently per account/screen. How would the server differentiate the settings file to use per system/screen/account/client?

If you're driven to threaten others with harm or violence because of what they do in game, you can't separate fantasy from reality. That "griefer/thief" is probably more sane than you are. How screwed up is that?

Server will differentiate through ether the account or character, that's the best way for it to work.

How? Are you saying that I wouldn't be able to set separate settings for the same account on multiple machines or clients?

This sounds like something CCP would do, don't get me wrong, but it would **** all over players like me.

If the servers did make settings account or character specific depending on what the player wants, then that would work.

Obviously if you wanted multiple settings you can allow the server to give you the setting you'd like.

Waste of CCP resources really, both in storage and dev time given you can just back it up yourself.
