I really get the impression you were trying to be insulting and/or dismissive. You're just a CSM, nothing more. You're welcome to your opinions and you're welcome to express them. Fortunately, there's room in the sandbox for people who don't care about fluff as well as room for the people who enjoy it. A lot of highsec dwellers, at least the ones who aren't miners or bots, tend to be interested in the "fluff". You remember who those people are, right? Maybe not.

Perhaps when you go to Iceland, someone in the Community Relations department at CCP can give you a quick crash course over lunch in how to not come across as a condescending jerk.

I think what Malcanis was trying to say, without using so many words, is that every ship has to be balanced against the greater tapestry of the game, while the fluff is just that, fluff. That fluff should have no impact on the game's balance because then it ceases to be fluff. There's nothing wrong with liking the fluff, and there's nothing inherently wrong with ignoring it - which is how is should be, because the balance of the game itself is unaffected by it.

De'Veldrin's Corollary (to Malcanis' Law): Any idea that seeks to limit the ability of a large nullsec bloc to do something in the name of allowing more small groups into sov null will inevitably make it that much harder for small groups to enter sov null.

It's nice to see that some people don't have to have everything spelled out for them to see the implications.

Incidentally when I actually do feel like being condescending and dismissive, you'll be left in absolutely no doubt whatsoever.

This is where I would have to disagree, but it's mostly because I still feel that EvE is an RPG at heart. Simulation as well, but still an RPG.

There are simply too many elements that don't fit into the 'spreadsheet' argument. Everything that EvE is, has been built on a backstory.

When they start taking away the backstory for the sake of making something more 'balanced'? I mean, the most balanced game out there is probably checkers. Simple, no gimicks, both are equal.

I just feel that Fluff in an RPG = gameplay. It's a bad developer that sacrifices one for the other, unless we're just going to skim EvE on down to World of Tanks level and call it a decent space sim. Can the books, and the lore, and ship colors, and all that unnecessary confusion.

Who needs that junk, right? Roleplayers are nothing but losers in their basements with no life who daydream too much, or at least that's what I keep getting told.

If you're driven to threaten others with harm or violence because of what they do in game, you can't separate fantasy from reality. That "griefer/thief" is probably more sane than you are. How screwed up is that?

100% of those descriptions would benefit greatly from a simple line:

"This is manufacturer's X response to criticism that their systems/armour are incapable of using the [system name] weapon system, and as such they have been developed blah blah, show of technical capacity blah blah etc."

After thinking about things for a while I am very confident that the ships will be balanced with there respective developers in mind. Many t1 ships were balanced while keeping the lore of the ships in mind.

If you don't follow the rules, neither will I.
