Welcome to EVE. Stop looking for 'fair fights'.

That is true, the funny thing about EVE is that it's probably got the oldest players on average of all MMOs, but they all behave like children in kindergarten, only fighting people who they're certain can't really fight back.

You'd think them being adults, they'd realize it was a game and it would be ok to take risks in order to have a fun and challenging fight sometimes, without having a gang to save your ass all the time. I.e. being a decent and somewhat honorable man/lady about it.

That's just me wishing people would pull their ***** together though. Realistically there won't be any fair fights in this game, no.

The problem is it's a fallacy of youth, when your young you don't think about safety or odds or potential for losing you just jump in feet first and say bugger to everything.

When you get old like alot of EVE players you realise your time is running out and you are about to shuffle off your mortal coil so you play the same in EVE. You become wrapped in cotton wool and so risk averse it's ridiculous.

Personally get the kids whilst they are young (to quote an infamous British DJ thankfully now worm foodShocked ) this will lead to lots more bull headed gung-ho foolishness and lots more people blindly flying around loosing ships a bit like SMA do on a daily basis. Blink

I don't know what you want us to tell you that you don't already know.
You know what you find fun in eve and that's how you need to look at eve,

what is the most fun for you?

what brought you to the game in the first place?

I have been playing since 2004 also, and i have tried to do a lot of things but i always seem to find myself doing what i find most fun.
These days the only pvp i do is solo and i fly the cheapest ships i can and I'm having a barrel of laughs....

Check this i got this morning.....

Solo kill, no links btw

Fair fights....Good Sir, there is no such thing but amongst fools. Patience, I'll try to explain.

Lets go back into history shall we? See, the wealthy had this notion a few hundred years ago of the duel where two men with a grievance would fight with their swords to the death. This was good and fine and could be a"fair" fight if refereed unless of course one of the participants bribed the ref which you'd be a fool not to.

Then as we advanced to gunpowder and guns this kind of behavior continued. These rich fellows would duel in the same fashion and foolishly stand back firm, chest out while they took shots at each other. Completely fair so long as one didn't bribe the duel master who brought the pistols and gave you first choice so as you could pick the pistol that wasn't utter crap.

In the spirit of honor and fair fights they even arranged their wars this way standing thousands of men (mostly poor) in formation to trade shots with each other. This kind of honorable war ended with the bloodiest of wars in all of US history, the civil war in 1861 to 1865. Lets face it, it's easy to have fair fights when you're lining up wage slaves and it's not your life on the line to stand there and trade shots like "real" men and lose limbs and life like them too.

No, Sir, the only fair fights to be had are between two rich guys/factions as they order their slaves/soldiers to fight those fair fights. And then the rules of those fights just get silly stupid real quick because, afterall, it's not the guys making the orders that have to jump through hulahoops while those that are required to follow those rules have to fight using them under penalty of law or death.

We still have such things. They're called "rules of engagement". Most soldiers will tell you they get good men killed. Most leaders will tell you it's a sign we're civilized.

So, you go have your fair fights....mm'kay?

Don't ban me, bro!

Well this isn't a war, it's a game. Which in my humble opinion is about having fun, and picking safe fights isn't fun.. But each to their own I suppose. I still think you're a child though!

While you're calling people that are beating you in fights children, they are blowing up your ship and having tremendous fun, and not caring what you think of them.

You said you got into FW? Then that is war. And it's a game, but it's also war at the same time, and the other side is out to beat your side. People who mitigate the risk of losing a fight and make it 'unfair' as you put it are not being childish, though, they are being smart. You could start trying to be smart yourself, or you can keep whining and calling people children. As long as you're losing fights, the people you are calling children for beating you do not care what you call them.

In EVE, FW especially, you are going to lose ships. You accept this the moment you log in and undock. Don't want to lose ships? Don't undock.

Wait did I say I got into FW? I don't think I did :p I have on occasion though, but that's another matter. It's still a game.
I'm not calling people that are beating me children, and I don't mind losing ships, in fact I lose a lot of ships because I with full intent throw myself into crazy fights that I know aren't necessarily in my favor, but winning them is just that much more awesome.

I have tried blowing up helpless ships, but that just got boring within a day or two.. I don't really see how you can enjoy playing it safe.. and that is what ISK is for - letting you afford to take risks and losses in order to have funny times.

It's like when I was a kid, I usually played games on easy difficulty because I just wanted to beat that **** and feel cool about it.. Now I tend to play on high difficulty levels because I've found that the fun of the game is actually the challenge and risk of failure if you slack, not so much beating the game in itself (ie. poppin' a ship ;) ).
That's just a semi-related anecdote to try putting things in perspective.

EDIT: I will go as far as to agree there are times when you want to be more "cost-efficiency" aware though, such as when you're low on resources and/or during heated corp warfare, I was mostly refering to random pvp and roams in low/null sec.
