I've thought a lot about this... and really for me it comes down to "Predator" or "Predators"... both movies were great. Dune was pretty good though too... and "Bladerunner" of course and blah blah star wars return of the jedi... meh... what's the best sci fi movie I've never seen that's better? Throw me a line EvE!

I love Starship Troopers! I find it funny that the first movie is one of the best movies I've seen and the sequels are really bad. The second movie might be one of the worst I've ever seen and the third is just bad.

For a long time I defined a lot of of my personal relationships with the ladies based on that. I mean she fell into his cab... really the whole story hinges on that one meeting of chance.

That's a good one. Big smile

Never wanted to see that one. It looked stupid. I can also be stupid though and sometimes I make a bad call... almost want to see it now. That said... my dad made me watch soilent green when I was a little kid, and to this day I tell that motherf***** he owes me 2 hours of my life. Don't waste my motherf******* time. Big smile

  1. Stargate
  2. Serenity
  3. Starship Troopers

I've left out Star Wars because that one's not open to debate otherwise I will suffer severe blunt trauma to the head.

The Man from Earth
Moon
Pi (1998)
Star Trek - Wrath of Khan
2001 - A Space Odyssey
Fifth Element
Total Recall (With Arnie, the original)
Alien (all of them)
Dune (the special TV release, it's the original movie with a lot of added footage missing from the original - Movies never did Dune justice anyways)
AI - Artificial Intelligence
Bicentennial Man

The best movie here which has zero special effects but has a gripping story is 'The Man from Earth'. Do yourself a favor, watch this one.

In addition to aforementioned titles, I'd say Star Trek: The First Contact is a quite good sci-fi film, even if you are not a trekkie fan. Good action, some good humour, good actors.

My personal favourite is The Fifth Element, with Bruce Willis. That film seems ageless and is just plain fun to watch, imo.

That's a really hard question. In a way it depends on how you define a sci-fi movie. But here's a few I like

1984
A clockwork orange
Brazil
Children of men
Code 46
eXistenZ
On the beach
Slaughterhouse 5

I think Bruce Willis is better in 12 monkeys, but The Fifth Element is a good movie but a little to "pop'ish" for my taste.

Just a few that I think are a cut above the rest and are truly excellent sci-fi movies.

Cloud Atlas
Silent Running
Alien
Brazil
Gattaca
Minority Report
The Black Hole
Dark Star
Event Horizon
Pitch Black

Event Horizon
Blade Runner (plus most of the movies based on PK Dic.k Stories)
Alien 1 & 2
Terminator

And really too many others to mention really

And a guilty pleasure one - The Last Starfighter (since we are playing a game along a same principal :) )
