I am getting two cinflicting reports and I would hope that the panel would clarify this for me:

Does one need to lauch probes to scan down Ice Anomolies or would the in-built scanner do the job?

You don't need probes. Just turn on your scanner and they will pop up green...if they haven't been mined out yet. Once the last Berg is taken they reset after 4 hours.

You might also consider doing a quick "recon" to bookmark an iceberg a little ways back from the anom's Bookmark.

The ice anom is alot smaller than the ice field of bygone days, so expect a solid mass of ships to welcome you if you warp straight in regardless. Good times.Blink

And by 'solid mass of ships' we really mean 'fleet of gank Catalysts with one Noctis to salvage your exhumer'

Thanks for the replies and the tips. I shall make a note and not purchase that probe ship after all.

When I warp to the ice signature, I've been ending up 50k from the closest piece of ice. Even bookmarking a specific piece of ice and trying to warp to it lands me at a distance of 40k or more. Anyone else have this problem? This wasn't happening to me yesterday but has been today, even after logging after and slowboating to a piece of ice at 100m a sec is horrible.

I have had problems with EVE suddenly deciding that I want a default "warp to" distance of 100km. You might want to check that: right-click the "warp to" icon, select "Set default warp to" and see if it's been set to some weird value.

Thanks a lot! Eve decided that I wanted my warp in as 40km. I guess it's a new feature or slight rework that the default range is now on top instead of warp to zero. At least it seems different to me (after taking a break for a few months).

you do not need to do anything. Your ship scanner is all that is needed, and it automatically scans every time you use a gate or undock. You will see a selectable warp point in space just like any celestial object, or if you have your ship scanner window open, every anomaly and signature in the system will be in the scanner list. Anomalies including ICE belts and some combat sites can be instantly warped too, you do not even need to right click, there is a warp to icon beside the anomalies in the list. once you have done it a couple times it is as easy as warping to static belt.

Signatures, while still on the list but shown with less than 100% signal, are the ones that you need probes to find. You need to get the signal to 100% before you can warp to them.

I find that warping 10 km from asteroid belt, rather than 0 km, bring you way closer to asteroids.

Thanks for the tip. Will be sure to start doing that.

There is one issue: Lest say you want to wait for an ice spawn. You log in your ice mining alt, undock, go to a safe spot, open the scanner. Then you go to your main and every now and then you check on the alt, to see if there has been a spawn. But wait!

If there is a spawn it will not show on the scanner. It will show in space, but not on the scanner. To see it on the scanner you got to close and reopen it again. CCP says this is by design. I think its terrible design. Its like saying when a ship warps on grid it will not show on the overview until you close and re-open the overview.

Anyway, if you sit with the scanner window open you will not see a new anomaly pop up, you got to keep closing and opening the scanner. (Anyone know a less cumbersome way?)
