Frigates, cruisers and battleships are all with out an *REAL* missile oriented pirate version.
I'm guessing the reason for it has do to with difficulty to balance it from becoming to OP,
but i really would like to here from any one from CCP if this is the case or there is some other reason.

And good work on the new navy scorp its a really fun solo boat BlinkBig smile

We very well could someday, it's mostly just a coincidence that none of the current pirate faction ships have missiles as their primary racial weapons.

We don't currently have a Caldari/Minmatar pirate faction so if we ever get a chance to add that one (I hope we do someday but we don't have anything currently in the works) then missiles would fit very well there.

To repurpose the thread, it is now about a discussion as to potential names for this faction.

Discuss.

EOM? They don't seem to have any space though.

Now that their are racial skills for Destroyer & BC, i think they could make a pirate version of these ships. But still, all missile ships would suffer from the comparison to the (CN)Drake or CNR imo

EOM can be amarr/gallente mix

Mordu can make some pact with minmatar that makes them end up minmatar/caldari

there, you have all the racial pirate groups you need now

but i swear if you don't give the missile boats of minmatar/caldari their own hulls i will be annoyed.

Or just have the Guristas steal the Blueprints for the Abaddon, I'd really love to see a Guristas Abaddon with Missilez :3

EoM are better suited for an Amarr-Gallente pirate line. I see them as being be laser-drone based faction (or some sensor dampening-tracking disruption monstrosity). Pirate

Mordu's Legion could be something to toy with in regards to making a Caldari-Minmatar hybrid. They're closely associated with the Caldari but they are primarily mercenaries and operate just outside of "lawful space"... a place where many Minmatar "nomads" call home. It wouldn't be a stretch to say that Caldari mercs use Minmatar ingenuity (specifically Thukker) to upgrade their ships.

If CCP was willing to do a lot of moving of ships, what could make sense was moving Guristas from the Gal/Cal mix to the Min/Cal mix and switching them round to something speedy and missiley (much more in line with 'traditional' piracy than ridiculously tanky drone boats) and then make Mordu's Legion into the Gal/Cal mixed faction. Mercenaries would make more sense as being the tanky Guristas ships especially as Mordu's Legion is made up partially of Intaki soldiers.

EOM would work as a Gal/Amarr mix, but their ships are shield tanked rather than armor tanked. But non-incursion Sansha NPCs are armor tanked too, so it's not like that will be a big issue.

EoM is best as an Amarr/Caldari mix. They fly Amarr hulls, but they active shield tank them and use rails+missiles. The current Amarr/Caldari pirate faction.. is that Guristas? Could be moved to Minmatar/Caldari with six months' advance notice so that everyone has plenty of time to skill up appropriately.

Years ago Sansha ships used to be armor tankers (why do you think Slave Implant Sets affect armor?). They can be changed to something that fits in a bit better.

Sansha actually. Caldari bonuses are laser tracking and Amarr bonuses are laser damage.

Me too.

But then again, it's pretty well a game-wide problem with pirate vessels that there are only a few good ones, and none of them are Sansha.

The pirate frigates and cruisers in particular need some serious help.

Re-purposing a previous faction to fit this gap seems like the best idea, but if a *new* faction is to be introduced, at least there is a story-related explanation available to justify its beginnings and recent arrival:

In order to better combat the Amarr and their slave industry, a sizable group of Minmatar breaks away from the Tribal council and go "rogue". They claim their own territory (a constellation or two out in nullsec, or maybe even some systems in W-space) and use it to launch attacks primarily against the Empire and its allies, or just anyone that thinks slave trading is a good idea (Angel Cartel and Sansha). Joining them is a group of Caldari that were involved with the Insorum project at Ishukone, supplying them with weapons and tech and, of course, Insorum. (Some of these former Ishukone employees could be formers associates of Otro Gariushi, which suggests Guristas ties and connections.)

Together these two groups form a faction that is more akin to a guerilla strike force than a full-blown pirate force, and to fund their war effort they get involved in all kinds of illegal activities, just about everything short of slavery. To them the ends justify the means. In the factional politics of EvE they stand apart, they're not a pirate faction as some of the largest factions are their biggest targets, but they're not a sub-faction of the Big Four either. That said, they're not universially hated like for example the EOM, they have their anti-slavery sympathizers throughout New Eden.

(An extra twist could be that this new faction could be considered to be Privateers to the Minmatar Republic, secretly funded and sanctioned to attack and destroy Amarrians, but without any formal connection or backing, giving the Republic a clean image and plausible deniability.)

As for the name, I'll leave that to someone else.

Gurista ships use missiles launchers, though they are more drone boats.

They should increase the number of faction ships just a bit, though. Right now there are two ships with gallente-minmatar skills but each other pairing only has 1, so they could double the other pirate faction's selections which should mean adding more gurista ships. Those could be pure missile boats.

I also support adding EoM in as a Amarr-Gallente faction and Mordu's legion as Caldari-Minmatar.

Why would it have to be a Pirate faction? People have been wanting Concord ships for ages, and they seem like they could be a good missile type. could even do a pirate version of the concord ships

Mordu's legion wouldn't be a horrid idea either.
