But. The extra range and cap gives the opportunity to the DNI to do the same job with HAMs and a lower sig invul. Also, I dont know where you got your cap stats. The fit I posted goes for 3m40s all running. And you dont run everything all the time.

I was a little underwhelmed by the new Navy Drake that I picked up on Sunday. That is until I ran a mission and happily squealed like a fat kid in a chocolate store, while I launched salvo after salvo at the rats and nothing came close to even scratching my paint. I am happy with the ship but IMO it could use a little buff. Perhaps upping the calibration for the rigs?

And it just so happens that I use a TP on my standard issue drake.


Still, when I saw the 8-slot Drake, I feared it it become the dujour "get ganked by swarms of this hull" ship. And that would result in people crying in these forums that the Drake is OP (as if they would have survived the gate camp but for Drake?)



So it would look like CCP is being very careful with the Navy Drake. If this gets buffed, there is a risk of an ocean of tears lest people have to address their crap tactics instead.

I still do not get the point of that fit for the DNI. Not enough tank or not enough cap. You hit approach and burn towards them?

I got the cap stats from running everything in pyfa. Its not like 3 minutes is any better, but yes you don't need to run everything. Which means you want to brawl with this fit. All I can say is good luck. Post those KM brah.

Ok, now in terms of how we can use it.
PVE:
Drake Navy Issue is better at disposing smaller targets at higher range, BUT, fitting just 1 target painter to a normal drake, will make all those lovely Drake Navy Issue stats useless, seeing as it's a little easier to "sacrifice" a mid slot on the normal Drake.
Also, the extra range is over-rated and hardly means anything out there.

PVP:
You can make a "long" range sniper Drake.
But it being missiles, makes it useless again, since the travel-time of missiles makes them less than loved.


The only advantage i can see ( and it is only small ), is that HAM's effectively get the same range as normal Heavies, or just slightly over.
Out there though, the short range of the HAM's on a normal Drake, are only a very small "issue".


So i ask, anyone, the Drake Navy Issue, why does it exist?


I believe it gets a 50% boost to base shield hit points, so that would more than compensate for the 20% boost to shield resists, if you fit accordingly.

Also, depending on your target, the explosion radius bonus will increase your true damage when using HAMS.

It exists for people who do more than just chaining lvl 3&4, it's fantastic with HAMs and still gets similar EHP numbers even though it lacks a resist bonus.

If you shoot kinetic, you are likely shooting wrong. Next up is that you get a giant true-dps buff, meaning your true applied DPS goes up, not just the EFT or fitting numbers, but true applied dmg. Next up, you are fighting a losing battle, the drake navy issue has proved very useful for my friends and it is great where the drake is not. HAM drake is a right old pain against anything smaller, but with the drake navy issue it is 100% viable to shoot everything. Just because it doesn't rat guristas 6/10s and it can't do your lvl 3s and 4s as fast, but it damn well works for what it was intended to do. Bring HAMS, and hit with them too.

Sorry CCP, but for years I wanted a Navy Issue Drake or the like and this one has failed my imagination by a long shot. It should be worth what you pay for it like every other ship in the game. There is a reason why there are so many posts on the matter. From a ship that a solid number of players were wanting to be so good, I believe CCP only hired a really good paint guy!Big smile

-Hope it gets changed. (I won't say fixed here, because some don't think it's broke)

It's a different ship, different role. Sometimes people get too caught up with numbers..

Of course they had to nerf some things in order to keep balance. Also, the damage is actually slightly higher at low SP. The normal drakes damage is not better until you train up the supporting skills like BC5. The DPS difference is about 25 or so at max skills. But sometimes maybe you'd want smaller radius penalties instead, maybe for popping tacklers, kiters and dessies. Faction ships were intended for FW. It's like a destroyer of destroyers with a lot bigger tank. You also only need one target painter, or none at all, which leaves more room for tank.

I also tried a test fit in EFT using all caldari navy faction modules (4x BCS, etc), and T2 launchers with fury missiles. It's not affordable, but the result is 457 DPS at max skills (launchers only no drones).

So far it's all I have to solo level 4s with (non faction fit), until I train for cruise missiles. It does fine, if slow killing the battleships. It instapops frigates and dessie's often though. It does a little more DPS than a normal drake since I don't have BC5 yet, and I'm not limited to scourge for max DPS. It's a solid ship.

Always room for improvement, though! I'm sure there will be changes...

I love my Drake. If I took it into the level 4 mission it probably would've survived the escalation that guaranteed destroying my Raven (at *least* 10...yes...10 ECMs to lock it down).

Im glad the new BC arnt turbo mode BC but just different, really should be thought of alternate BCs with more ehp.
