i would like more people to play EVE. its an amazing game with even more amazing potential with a dedicated dev staff who genuinely seem to care about their product as more than just revenue.

if all it took for this to happen was ship re-coloring through the AUR store or ship hats or some other stupid gimmick (or nothing at all) that you could completely ignore to open up this game to the numerous people i know personally who would love to play the game but can't/won't because of the sub fee. I'd be perfectly fine with that.

It's frustrating when you ask a question and no one ever has an answer. The above is such a non-answer.

"EVE is amazing and I want more people to play" isn't a reason to risk turning a great game into some free to play ghetto where all these new folks come in scream "this is to hard, why is this so hard, it's supposed to be a game, where is the fun, why can't I fly a Titan right now, why must I wait!!!"

My wife is Amazing, that doesn't mean I want more people to "come and play". My ex-wife WAS amazing ...till she let everyone (inclduing the actual honest to God mail carrier, I thought that only happened in movies) "come and play". I'd rather EVE not turn into my ex-Wife.

Wow, so many ways to go with that... Twisted

I'll just support the slogan "Don't Let Eve Be Your Ex-Wife" instead.

I don't judge people by their race, religion, color, size, age, gender, or ethnicity. I judge them by their grammar, spelling, syntax, punctuation, clarity of expression, and logical consistency.

I'm a little leery of claims to exclusivity. Besides the fact of the 21 day free trial, $15 won't even get you a large pizza. I've spent (significantly--damn Belgians) more on beer in a single evening. If it's a filter, it's a thin one.

The major difference is that the likes of Guild Wars 2 will spoonfeed you ~6 months of content, and then you're down to dungeons, and such fascinating minigames as hoping the RNG gives you a rare dye this time; after 6 months in EVE, you hardly know your *** from your elbow, and if you haven't shown a fair amount of curiosity and initiative on your own, you've probably given up long since.

CCP is being patient with DUST for the same reason, even though it's F2P. They know they're playing a long game. They know it'll take a while for people to look past the immediate hook and see what the real game is. They know that most people will think "CBA" and go to play the latest instant-gratification Skinner box for a few months until the next one comes out. And they're OK with that. EVE is their model for success.

Hang on, I think he's onto something here...

Make eve F2P, but the instant your account goes off subscription you no longer have access to clones, as your license has been revoked and you're now flying illegally, so Concord pulled the plug.

Now I'm not saying eve should go f2p, but could you guys imagine the tears? I mean dear god. If you're older than a year and not paying you're going to be a prime gank target. Then make it so you can tell whose license is revoked. Twisted

Edit: you would have a clone, but it would be basic 900000 SP version.

I already make other people pay real money for my game time. EVE is free to play for many of us.

Remember that whenever you have a bad day in EVE, the correct reponse is "Thank you CCP, may I please have another?"

I don't know how to say no in enough languages to adequately express how I feel about EVE being F2P.

$15 is not that much. It's two less fast food meals a month. Especially given how VAST this game's content is, in comparison to just about any MMO out there, and the fact that this game gives out free expacs every few months, this is an entertainment bargain.

Moreso because you can pay for your subscription with in game money.

Bioware/EA had to do something.

But if you haven't played SWTOR know that it hosts a fair amount of people who couldn't hack or didn't like EVE -- which is fine, to each their own. BUT to bring those people here would probably be no less than unfortunate.

F2P (and even P2P ) is a real pain for many dedicated SWTOR players. These people aren't usually vested in the game and take away more from the community then they have to offer.

The only reason I can see adding them is if there were a lack of targets in EVE. I don't see that happening anytime soon.

I would just look at the average stay (and conversion) of the F2Pers when calculating revenue. I actually subbed and was in a great corp (I mean Guild) but only lasted about 3 months.

Scammers, smackers and gankers might have a bit more fun initially (just from the influx of new people) but I think it would be a risky move into territory EVE was not designed for, given the player-driven economy alone. -- Just my opinion.

An entire think tank failed at trying to come up for a way to make eve free to play .

when the idea was pushed to allow for micro transactions and a in game cash shop was floated they were rejected by the player base.

The reasons why was because they were typical every day use of f2p items we see in every other game out in the market .

To allow for such a business plan CCP really needs to up the ante and come up with true content that the player base would be willing to pay for .

It has been discussed to death in other threads and forums and the general consensus is that ccp could make a killing off of custom skins, and custom logo, player created swag and gear . but unfortunately CCP is afraid of TIP (time to penis)

also they have other issues like fuzzy ships to contend with, so the custom content angle poses a huge logistics issue that i am guessing is no small task to tackle .

It is ideology like this that will be the money maker for ccp however . if this game is truly built for the players and it is our sandbox then the ultimate goal is to give the players the tools necessary to construct their sandcastles how they see fit .

Their should be things like custom corp tv screenies that can be setup by gates in 0.0 there should be custom corp ads/news that can be played through captain qs and of course custom logos for ships among a myriad of other unique and truly awesome ideas that have been fielded in the features and idea threads.

CCP does not really need a f2p model . What they have now is working well, and with a bit more forethought and creativity they can expand on the current model by offering particular items that allow for the player base to create their own footprints in this sand box.

1. Most themepark F2P MMO's have a system where a paying customers gains XP faster.
2. In Eve Online you can make a monthly subscription 'free' by buying a PLEX with ISK ingame.

In both cases grind / time is increased in order to play for free. Eve is already F2P, but you have to actualy play to make it free.
