Where do ships get power from?

Somewhere it used to say that the wingy things on Min ships were solar energy collectors. The idea being that Minmatar are so broke that they collect every bit of free energy they can. I read that the first day I started an EVE account 5 years ago and was choosing a race. The lore might have changed by now though.
