I am new to this game pretty much, so I wanted to try smartbombs and turned off my security safeties. No problems because I didn't fire it.

So later I am on a long run of killing rats and salvaging them. I lock onto a wreck and accidentally hit F1 on my railguns instead of F2 on my salvager and im suddenly instasploded....

So now I am marked as a criminal and got my ship destroyed for commiting a crime against another capsuleer????? Does this make any sense at all? The pirate wreck was blue, declaimed and everything.

So you can shoot a pirate, but don't DARE shoot the pieces after he explodes because that's punishable by death.. Like come on, could this be fixed or something?

It's a hard lesson, but actually the crimewatch system is a good thing that CCP came up with IMO. You see when you put your status to red you know that you have enabled yourself the ability to do criminal acts, therefore CCP says that since you were warned that you are setting it to red they are not liable for your choices. That is the agreement you make when you set it to red. Before this system was in place it was a lot easier to make mistakes and get yourself concorded, especially when new to the game.

I did catch that you weren't smarbombing anything, using your railguns.

I suggest you put your ideas in the suggestions thread.

I honestly do not get why the in game police need to be this strong. I understand if it's not absolute then groups of people could ruin it for others, but you sort of have to adapt in a game like this, maybe get another group to fight that group with.

Why are we hired to go kill pirates factions are having trouble with when concord can instagib anything and everything.

Lore answer follows:

CONCORD is effectively neutral and separate from any faction in the game. What capsuleers do to factions is handled between the capsuleer and the faction. The only thing CONCORD cares about is violations of the Yulai Accord, otherwise known as "Crimewatch".

You've now had what we call in EVE a "learning experience". Hopefully you will walk away from this incident with more information than you had before.

Welcome to EVE.

P.S. If you go to nullsec then you dont' need to deal with the ingame police bad boys who only float around gates getting fat eating jita donuts and letting us do all the real dirty work killing pirates... btw it can be good isk for someone starting out, so thanks to the heavy handed lazy cops for letting me get isk and doing most of their work.

.. and while they're at it, why don't they mine, mission, manufacture, and fight our wardecs too? Concord polices the capsuleers of certain systems in New Eden, not the pirates.

Yea I was in an asteroid belt, no it wasn't the smartbomb.

I fired 150mm railguns at a blue declaimed pirate wreck. I still haven't even tried smartbombs out yet.

Amazing how many people typed out smartazz replies without reading this little detail, isn't it?

Move out of high sec and Concord will no longer be a problem for you.

Several people have already mentioned this, but your real solution here is to both keep your safeties on, and to not use smartbombs in highsec.

I submit the Socratic Files as evidence of this:

Safeties ? we don't need no stinking safeties!

Back in my rookie days, if you did something wrong, not only did concord instapop you, they'd come round you house and kick the bejesus out of you Cry...... Ok the last bit might not have happened (dam good meds) but you either shot stuff to see what happened or you read the tutorials, forums etc. The point being you actually learned stuff.

I'm not sure I understand the problem. Whenever I try to do something that will bring the wrath of Concord I get a warning before doing it.

As far as moving out of highsec, I've spent several months outside of highsec and found that I didn't like it. I don't mind pvp, or getting killed, and I don't want to limit the pvpers (even ganking in highsec); but, I found that I was so limited on what I could experience in null sec that I went back to highsec.

I pvp now through market competition, and occasional incursions into lowsec.

I don't consider myself a carebear because I understand pvp and accept it. As I see it, carebears are people who want to be absolutely protected from pvp and whine when they are ganked. They are afraid of pvp and have never tried null sec.

Done my time in null sec, now I'm just a Privateer wandering around High and Low Sec.

Yeah, pretty much. What did you find limiting about null sec? I guess it can be harder to move around and the markets can be crappy and risky to buy from sometimes. Low sec is a lot less restrictive in that regard and you can make some decent money there now with exploration and security tags. I'm not sure about the exploration though, I don't do it.

If you agress something that is not belonging to you (in high sec) Concord will pay you a visit. You seem to fancy ninja looting and salvaging so learn how to do it right...getting concorded brings you on a good path.

They are not, the faction's police forces are far weaker then CONCORD. Do not think of CONCORD as a 'police force' but more or less of an insurance company: one that insures the destruction of an offenders ship. The design rules say: if you agress in hisec you lose your ship. CONCORD is merely an attemt at suspension of disbelief. Not a great one but there you have it.

Consider it your baptism into the game, you are now an Eve player having been Concorded. Fly forth young capsuleer and kill and be killed. (and turn on that safety in hi sec)

I think I found your problem..

At least if you didn't do the above, you would have gotten a warning you would receive a smackdown doing what you did wrong..

DOWN WITH CONCORD! MARCH ON YULAI! KILL THEM ALL!!1

I mean... uh... hi.

...

In all seriousness, you were destroyed by CONCORD because you shot at something that didn't belong to you. The wreck belonged to someone else.

Had you looted from it, and it was not your property (yellow), rather than abandoned (white) or marked as yours (blue), then you would have been suspect flagged anyway.
