Are we finally going to get out "Deep Space Regions"?

At this year's E3 gaming show, CCP did a little presentation of Eve Online and Dust 514 for gamebreaker.tv (Related article can be found here: http://www.gamebreaker.tv/mmorpg/ccp-games-e3-presentation/).

What grabbed my attention, was the last minutes of the presentation, where one of the devs talked about the future of Eve. What he talked about, was space colonization and hideaways in yet to be introduced systems, where players can build there own mini stations and jumpgates. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-mv_zxFjP6Q&feature=player_detailpage#t=1885s

That reminded me of a thread written a couple years ago by JimmySquirts, called: Eve needs new space with a twist....I present Eve Deepspace Regions

Now you tell me - Am I onto something or am I on to something? Is this our future "Odyssey extreme"?

Enjoy paying which ever alliance wins the war for the right to do these things ;)

Was that presentation anything like the fanfest presentation about the same things?

With the increase in shiptoasting, the Report timer needs to be shortened.

I noticed that too and got excited for a minute. But Ramona is probably right, it's going to change nothing. The major alliances will most likely get ahold of all that too. Sucks, but that's the way it works. One man doesn't have an advantage over a fleet, and shouldn't. Unless it's a fleet of sheep.....

Hilmar has been saying crap like this for a decade now. Wanting to build your own stargates, your own dead-space pockets, etc.

It's nothing new, just a recycled concept they like to use to generate hype while they maintain absolutely no intention whatsoever of actually delivering it.

i'd rather see modular POSes and better POS arrays before player built star gates.

This also aligns within the concept of deadspace pockets. It would end up being done the same way, if it was actually done.

It won't be.

The day Eve actually has something that cool put into the game, there will be nothing better left to dream about and that would be the single biggest mistake CCP could possibly make. It would kill their game.

But the dream has to be present in the minds of the players for it to take a positive effect and keep people playing. Ergo, they keep mentioning it.

I believe that was their 'the next 10 years' of Eve thing. So if they go through with those plans it will probably be way far off.

Not to be Debbie Downer or anything, but i take things ccp says at fanfest or E3 or the like with a HUGE grain of salt.

If you believed CCP at previous E3s, we should be flying our ships in planetary atmospheres for the last 7 years among other things. SO many ideas CCP has had for the game just never bear fruit, such as the battlefield altering "strategic weapons" that were supposed to come with the "strategic cruisers" etc etc.

I love CCP, but at this point I have a "believe it when I see it" policy when it comes to any ideas that put out.

Forget all that, I don't want WiS, I want SFiS (Sword Fighting in Station). That way when i tell people i'm ready to "cross sabres" with Goons they don't get the wrong idea......

Yeah, CCP is great in thinking and forging new ideas and some of them are truly epic. Its good thing too, it gives impression that these guys really want more and more. Of course after they landed safetly on earth from their space dreaming reality kicks in and technical stuff says "No" in their face. Lol

Better just smile and nod at CCP untill space dreams become reality.

It's too hard.

-or-

The code is too broken to impliment these awesome features. We're also refusing to fix said code.

Nothing to see here, move along.

What would be cool was if you could create JumpGates to WH systems.
If you own the gate you could put a password on it that only allowed your Corp/Alliance.

Everyone else would have to find your system via other WH's but you would have your own door.

Thoughts?

Strangely, my immediate thoughts were exactly the same thoughts as you...

It's human nature to want to explore. To find your line and go beyond it. The only limit, is the one you set yourself.

Expansion of New Eden would be nice, but, in my opinion, wouldn't work without the expansion itself potentially threatening the game.

In order to expand space such that the "big alliances" won't just steamroll in and own all the new space, New Eden would need to be expanded so far that they simply would not have the manpower to hold more than a given amount of space. Hypothetically, you could say that space would need to be big enough that even if all players moved to null, there wouldn't be enough people to conquer all of it.

Unfortunately this also lessens the prospect of conflict. If you can't control your own borders, why would you try and overtake the systems owned by another large alliance on the other side of the galaxy?

Without the conflict, Eve would suffer in the subscriptions area.

So, much as some such as myself would love to see the expansion of space like that, there are solid reasons why it would not be healthy for Eve, and thus should not be done yet.

So, i guess this would be a bit like that 'totally awesome' "Ambulation" feature that was discussed and demo'd back in 2008?

heh. Yeah. They'll add 4000 new star systems, and all the gates to them will look like a locked door.
