I'm 16 years old and have 4 kids. Just kidding. Big smile I'm 27 years and already have one daughter. Wife is bugging me to have another one. Anyone out there have more than one kid at my age?

Why on earth would I get a kid (or a wife for that matter) when I'd get less time to play games? The only reason I actually have a job is so that I can scream "plexcapolypse" all the way to the bank. Pirate

Yeah I should just ditch em both, be a free man. I wonder how that feels.

I don't have any, but sure hope to one day. I'm a few years older than you.

End of the day only you can answer the question of whether you want more children.

But I'm guessing should you opt to have, say, 4 more kids... when you're surrounded by loving family in your twilight years you'll not be regretting the decision.

Remember, you might have to take care of them today, but someday if everything works out as it should, they'll take care of you.

So, do you want one child that can only afford the cheap-o nursing home or do you want 5 kids that combined can buy you space in an assisted-living dream come to life?

Use it to your advantage. I'm creating my own fleet, so include both my daughters in my gaming!

While they're not quite old enough to pilot a ship in EVE just yet I still think of them as future capsuleers in training. Pirate

I would expect you would not feel so good about yourself, at least as it has to do with your child.

My daughter is 15 months old and i would not give her up for anything. Unfortunately me and my daughters mother are not on the good side of the fence. That is a real long story so I will leave it with, I do not want me daughter to not have any brothers or sisters, but I am having to try very hard to forgive and let my daughters mother back into my heart. So if you love your wife/significant other, you want to have more kids, and you feel like you can support them in every way possible, then by all means do it while you are younger. You will have more time to enjoy them and their potential families, later in life.

Now, I am only 20 and dont plan on getting any children anytime soon. But in my opinion. Every child deserves siblings. They will be a vital part of each others life and no matter how much they will tease and hate each other, they will still love each other even more.

And parrents tend to spoil their child too much when they only have one.

OP, you're not from the United States, are you? If you are, have you been outside lately? Smile

Popping out as many kids as early as possible seems quite popular here, at least in my area. I know quite a few people younger than you with several. It isn't unusual at all (unless you have a dozen or so, then people start wondering).

I don't know if you want another one yet or not, but if you really, really don't - show the wife pics of what happens to your boobies and thighs after multiple kids, then start talking about a beach vacation. Might put her off 'em for a bit.

This is not necessarily true. No one deserves a sibling like the one I had. 'Every child deserves a somewhat normal sibling' works a bit better.

I'm one of those who feels there are flat out too many people in the world already and period.

3rd world and other underdeveloped countries are discouraged from using contraceptives thanks to some ancient religious beliefs still being perpetrated by the Vatican, and it's up to responsible Westerners to at least make some efforts to counterbalance that short-sighted worldview.

There is a website that shows just how many people are born and dying at running totals, and we figured out the equivalent of the population of Berlin is added to the Earth every single day.

Not good.

Just make sure, if you do this, that you are financially capable of seeing this 2nd child fully all the way through college.

I'll have to respectfully disagree with you there. The low birthrate in western Europe is screwing with our long term demographics and dependency ratio. The baby boom at the moment is good because it will be their taxes and labour that pays for the pensions of their parents and grandparents.

Some places of the planet, namely developing countries need to change to their resource base, but we still need to maintain a replacement rate and modest growth for the next few decades before we stabalise ourselves with the right demographic spread.

I am from the united states and I am financially stable. At the moment I live in Europe and I also feel that if we have another child it will quash our time here. On one hand I believe its kind of selfish for me not to have another child cause "I want more fun." I also have some "antiquted beliefs" according to Krixtal.

The question is not "should you have another kid", the question should be "Can you both be good parents to them".

I work for an inner city school and it makes me sick seeing the way kids are brought up these days. The lack of parenting is destroying the future generation.

I have two sons. 14 and 11. Their teachers tell us what good students they are. Their friend's parents tell us how well behaved they are.

IF you can be a quality parent for them, then it really doesn't matter.

Also, second kids (from my experience) are easier. You've already learned the hard way once and the first child will most likely love to help with the second.

Well I'm a firm believer in discipline, rewards and punishment. Except my daughter is almost 4 and is extremely rebellious.

Also, whats the definition of a "good parent" My wife and I discuss this a lot. Since we question our own parenting style.

Whoa, that is hitting WAY below the belt dude. Way below.

I made no personal accusations against "your beliefs".

But believing contraception is evil is most indeed an antiquated belief, whether it is yours or not.

If it is, mayhaps that rather important fact should have been in your OP unless you are deliberately trying to get your toes stepped on.

edit:....and if this is any sort of indication of the kind of snap judgements you make in your life, it's probably better for you to take a look at that and how it applies to your parenting.

No no, I don't believe contraception is evil Big smile

It wasn't a jab at you either, I was saying that I do believe in God, but I'll leave it at that.

I still do. Just the act of questioning whether you are doing a good job should be commended.

Yep!

I believe that being a good parent is simple really. It's the act of doing your very best to put your kids first, in every way and facet you can, both long term and short term. In many ways this thought process should begin even before conception, to help you decide whether or not you're truly equipped to give your little ones the best shot at life they deserve.

You'll never be 100% there, and your parenting won't ever be 100% perfect, nobody's is. But if you're confident you have the resources and attitude to put them first, and feel that you honestly have a life that you'd love to share with them, then by all means keep procreating. Smile

If in doubt then wrap it up! Lol

That's fine. There is nothing wrong with a jab at a specific religion's beliefs, as those are determined by the interpretation of the human mind, not God's.
