You're not entitled to anything save for the ability to log in and hit the undock button.

If you can't do something because another player or group of players is preventing you from it then figure out a way to deal with it.

The best way to guarantee a disastrous failure is to try and abort something at the last second. If you're going to back out of something do it early on, don't wait until the final moment, you'll just cause bad things to happen.

Don't get mad, get even.

Try everything once.

Ask as many questions as you need to.

There are only three things worth nothing in Eve; ISK; Skill Points and Getting Blown up. Once you learn this, the universe truly sets you free.

1. dont turn eve into a job, enjoy it ( no trying to plex an account on your first month)

2. if you want to pvp then do it, i wish i jumped into it earlier.

3. jita is the eve equivalent of Mos Eisley, do your buisness and get out without talking to the strange guy in the corner trying to sell you a navy raven with suspicously wet paint.

1. Dont use titans in losec. Yeah, you cant fly one now, but its still an important rule. Remember Uemon (Asakai was Uemon 2.0)

2. Dont fly what you cant afford to lose.

3. Try different things, find whats fun for you and do more of it.

You can't just give a top 3...it wouldn't cover 10% of the advice, but mine would be:

1.) EVE is what you make of it - So, if it's a grinding boring game, it's cause you decided to make it that, etc.
2.) Ask questions, be polite but also verify answers - Being polite and asking questions will get you answers, but always try to see if those answers are true (usually 10 vets saying the exact same thing then it's likely to be the truth).
3.) Listen to the veterans, but don't think they are better then you.

1. Your first new ship in a size category or role you haven't flown before is doomed. All your other ships, also doomed, though to a lesser extent. Don't let it bother you.

2. Don't be a ****. Ever. Being in a bad mood is forgivable and being vengeful is required, learn to do both without outright verbally harassing people, learn to lose and win without whinging, and learn to give and take advice honestly and without being a **** about it.

3. Risk versus reward goes both ways. Learn to minimize risk, to maximize reward, and to balance the trade-off. Learn to embrace the statistical nature of the game, so that you don't turn losing streaks into a weird personified religious thing and accept that gambles are just that: if you didn't lose sometimes they wouldn't be gambles.

I guess all three of those boil down to "let it go, man", but whatever, multiple aspects of the lotus and so on.

1) Take the time (if you're not being shot at) to "show info" on everything. Some of the descriptions are hilarious, such as some of the corpses you may pick up as mission cargo ("Not a Doll").

2) If you get ganked/podded, take a deep breath and move on. Refit a new ship and figure out what may keep you alive longer next time.

3) Be polite to other players. The right attitude can earn you a great deal of respect in the game.

1. Learn PvP, if you can't defend your assets, they won't be yours for long.

2. Trust no-one ( especially your granny if she has been playing longer than you)

3. Have fun ( you will have great days and bad days, take enjoyment from both...it's a game)

1) there is no such thing as wasted skillpoints, just more things you can do
2) never keep all your stuff in one station or (worse) in one ship
3) get jumpclones

1. You will get blown up. Alot - Accept losses and carry on.

2. Do what you want to do, but accept the consequences/outcomes - Just like real life.

3. Trust is a precious commodity in this game - Don't give it or take it for granted.

1. Just because you CAN fly a ship, doesn't mean you SHOULD fly it.

2. Don't be afraid to ask for help.

3. Read the mission requirements carefully!

I'm not saying you did it, I'm just saying I'm blaming you.

1) The most critical skills you'll need to fly don't go in your training queue; they come from practice.
2) A friend in your time of need is more powerful than the priciest officer mods out there.
3) Whether you're talking skills, industry, or tactical combat, you're better off with a plan than without one, but remember that no plan survives a hostile encounter intact.

1. Ships die . . . They don't wear out. Get used to the idea. In industry -- Dying ships are good for business. In mining dying ships are good for business. In exploration, dying ships are good for business. Everyone benefits from dying ships -- Your ship's death is good for everyone else's business. Embrace this concept. Live this concept -- Learn this concept. Its a good death. Learn from it. It stings. It bothers you and it matters.

2. Take risks. Stick your head in where it doesn't belong. Die trying. Failure is an option. Attack ships then attack again. Learn how to fight -- learn where to fight and learn when not to fight. Do it now. Not later. Your ship's death is good for business

3. Learn how the market works. Train a few basic trade skills. Make more ISK for the same effort. Work smarter -- not harder. Enjoy more not less. No matter how you make your ISK in Eve more profits come from Patience, Research and Sell Orders.

2. You will never catch up in wealth.
3. You will never catch up in player skill or experience.

Number 3 is a really important one. Don't be the failure who runs off with 100 million isk, gloating on his corp theft success, only never to be taken seriously by anyone he was in dealings with. Set your standards high no matter what you do, when reputation is involved.

1. Don't fly what you can't afford to replace - If you can only just afford a new shiney ship, the chances are you can't realy fly it to it's full portential, and it will die fast

2. Learn to adapt, or die - Eve is always changing, some people shout, scream and stomp their feet in temper here on the forums. Others get on with things and keep on playing the game, even if they don't like how one aspect might have changed

3. Learn how to fit a good 'Skin tank' - Forget Armour tanking, Shield tanking, or even Hull tanking. You need a think skin to play Eve. If you take offence easy, or get upset at 'unfair' game play then Eve may not be the best game for you.

4. OK this is extra. Keep having fun. Eve is a strange game, it can quickly become a second job. Keep things in perspective, enjoy yourself, have fun, and as soon at you stop doing so, walk away, or at least have a break

Ships are your tool belt, not your whole contracting business - your character and your story are what you should feel strongly attached too, not imaginary space assets.
