1: Certificates must be one of the most confusing things added to "ease" the new player experience :D

1. Ask for help.
2. Stay polite when asking for help, and dont rage if you dont agree with the advice you receive.
3. When you get an answer to your question, double check the information your self so you know no one is trying to give you false advice (accidentally or on purpose).

Do what you want

How you want

When you want

Solecist Project...." They refuse to play by the rules and laws of the game and use it as excuse ..." " They don't care about how you play as long as they get to play how they want."

Welcome to EVE.

#1 - A five year old character that can fly a Titan does not necessarily fly a frigate better than a four month old character. SP != invincibility

#2 - Be very discerning about the advice you get in NPC corps. Many times they just funnel you into mining or missioning, and into a mentality that this game is about piling up isk. It is not. That way lies boredom and leaving the game.

#3 - Get ten Rifters, or Atrons, or Incurses, or Condors - and then get them blown up. You'll never look back, or you'll look back with pity at those who play the game just to pile up isk.

1: Safety in numbers. If 10 newbies are all flying the same thing, you have a 1 in 10 chance of getting primaried. If you're flying alone, it goes up Rather Significantly.

2: Learn how different ships are usually flown. No point in putting a shield booster on an amarr frigate, their shields are not much more than that plastic film that companies put on glossy plastic to prevent getting fingerprints on it. Unless you know you're gonna do something stupid and want to do it anyway (sniper badger anyone? :3 )

3: Trade 2 and Retail 1 takes not much more than an hour and a half to gain an extra 16 trade slots. Got a bunch of missioning loot? Now you can sell it all at once rather than logging in every couple of hours to see if something sold so you can sell the next doodad.

4: This thread is for 3 tips, so I can't post about being careful about selling to buy orders and trying sell orders instead. Dang.

Don't use autopilot anywhere.

If an offer looks too good to be true and you can't see the catch, look harder.

Fly what you can't afford watching you fortune going up in smoke is the best way to learn.

  1. Make friends: friends and allies are your most powerful advantage in the game
  2. Be careful about who you trust and what you trust them with. “It is equally unsound to trust everyone and to trust noone” — Seneca.
  3. Enjoy the power and beauty of your frigate

Clones are cheap early - abuse this.
Lessons early are cheap and important - dare to be bold :)
Ships are your tool belt, not your whole contracting business - your character and your story are what you should feel strongly attached too, not imaginary space assets.

1. Try, fail and learn. The earlier you fail and learn the cheaper it is.
2. Never be sad over what you've lost today, remember that the same loss would have been more expensive next week.
3. Have fun.

CCP Greyscale: As to starbases, we agree it's pretty terrible, but we don't want to delay the entire release just for this one factor.

1. Standings are the key to all things PVE except ratting, exploration, and incursions. Manufacture, refine, mission, trade, research, personal POS, etc. all hinge on having good standings for your characters. Check out related guides on how to build standings asap if you want to pursue those careers.

2. EVE is a dynamic long-term game. Always consider whats around the next patch corner. It can make or break your favorite ship, your biggest investment, or your favorite pastime. Stay on top of this and you won't be crying on the forums on patch day.

3. An empty character slot is a wasted opportunity (especially with dual-training). Use a single PLEX and cook up an alt that can make you some passive income or at least do some things that your main cannot like check market prices in a far-away trade hub.

1. Join a PvP corp in low-sec. Even if you want to do the industry/exploration/"non-combat" and/or solo side of EVE you should still try to seriously PvP with others early on... it will teach you how PvPers hunt for targets and what tricks/tactics are needed to keep safe.

2. There is no "safe-zone" or "non-PvP" area in the game. Every facet of the game affects another and is in turn open to being affected as well. If there were "safe-zones" then people who specialize in certain activities would be able to affect other areas of the game without other people being able to affect them (except in the former's specialty).
And know that while PvPers may rule the spacelanes industrialists, traders, builders, etc. rule the markets.

3. The devil is in the details. Read and learn about the bonuses, attributes, and descriptions of everything. Ask "why is X this way?" or "what does Y do?" if you need clarification.
