He does have a point, some DO take their bios a little to serious, often when your sitting in fleet shooting posses or camping gates the fleet warps to a safe/station/POS as the FC calls for a 5 mins "bio break", Just because a few guys need to rewrite their bios. I mean can't they write those bios on their own time?

I'm probably going to regret any answer I get here but what the heck. As long as I've been playing I've never seen a BIO of any real value. Most of what I see is regurgitation of someone elses. I've seen numerous BIOs that state damage types. Who cares! I've seen BIOs that are nothing more than cut & paste from chat. Again, who cares!

So, obviously, my question is, what is the real purpose behind the BIOs? I will admit, I don't have one but its because of all the others I see that are as I stated above. Who cares!

Thanks in advance to anyone that gives a response that is of any real value.

They're there to annoy you. Works, don't it?

Some people just love talking about themselves. Some people really believe they are the most unique/intelligent/interesting human being on the planet.

It's the Facebook syndrome.

And that's why I love 'bios'. They help me decide how much of a loser another player is. P

CCP should remove the Bio tab so it doesn't look like they are catering to roleplayers.

BIOs

Also, we are pod pilots, not POD pilots; capital ships are caps, not CAPs; and stasis webifiers are webs, not WEBs.

since caps are pretty huge i think its fair to call them CAPs

i agree on the rest though ...

some people's bios are full of win, and some have meaning to them, thaqt may not have any meaning to you.

I for one <3 my bio, and it has meaning within my corp.

I think the characters BIOs is a nice little addition to EVE.
Originally they were able to hold more text than today and you could make for an interesting read.

Today the amount of text we're allowed to put in there is way too low, double it atleast or get rid of the BIOs all together I say. And fix the BIO bugs both ingame and those related to EVE Gate please.

Bio as in Biological, usually used in sentences like "im going to take a bio break" this is when people proceed to defecate text into a box and share it with others. Refer to my bio for examples

"War declarations are never officially considered griefing and are not a bannable offense, and it has been repeatedly stated by the developers that the possibility for non-consensual PvP is an intended feature." - CCP

I started out with good bio, then went more and more silly. But still my bio are always true even if silly :)

I do wish more people would write legitimate ones though. Sadly Eve which could be used for so many more things is too often pictured as a big gank-fest. It doesn't have to be all punches, it can be hugs too?

+1 for really strange reasoning.

The right to free speech doesn't automatically carry with it the right to be taken seriously.

EVE is an RPG. So why not have the ability to give yourself a backstory?

Do people carry their backstories on their person in real life too?

I like having the option of writing something in the Bio in any case. Lot of people have something written in their bios, so I guess bio is something people like to have.

I liked it until EVEGate came along and with the shoddy ASS.NET programming it is, ate my entire BIO. Desipte petitions and bug reports, it's still not fixed and randomly it will decide to cut off the text you've inserted into it. Dare to edit your bio through EVE Gate and in-game.... expect an ASS.PLOSION.

At some point I just gave up on my original RP bio (which I enjoyed but quickly noticed not too many other RP bios) and since it was constantly being eaten by bad programming anyways just made it shorter and random.
