To go Gallente or Amarr

So after I get into a maelstrom. I can either go gallente and fly a machariel or go for a bhaalgorn. Seeing as I can do level 4's just fine in a maelstrom, I figure bhaalgorn would be the pvp route. With the new hybrid buff coming around would be nice to go into drone specialization with hybrids eventually also. Just looking for some advice to solidify my decision. "I like both options about equally."

You are correct in that the Machariel is more optimized for PVE situations. It excels at running Level 4 missions, and as long as your projectile turret skills are up to snuff, is a solid choice. The Bhaalgorn is more suited to close range fighting and is often used in Incursion fleets for Vanguards as well as an EXPENSIVE (but nasty) pvp platform.

Being Gallente, I tend to be biased towards training their ships. Drone skills are always handy to have for virtually any ship, so they usually aren't wasted skillpoints and will only speed up your missioning.

If you're excited about hybrid changes and want to explore other options, Gallente ships are a good choice, but the Machariel is related to the Gallente in skill tree only due to its weapons and tanking systems. A vindicator is probably more the type of ship that will be significantly improved from the upcoming changes.

(I personally am stoked about flying Vindicators again.)

Also, PVP in a Bhaalgorn usually = you have isk up the ass, but that's true for any faction BS, including Vindy.

I'd say go against the grain and take a chance on hybrids!

Just don't come after me in game if they don't shape up to your expectations Cool There is still a LOT of balancing to do.

First come smiles, then lies. Last is gunfire.

The machariel is the best subcap pve ship in the game, bar none, unless perhaps you're in a nightmare and fighting sansha.

If you are Drunk then the best PvE Ship is a Omni Tanked Passive Rattler. It is literally idiot proof if you do not mess with the fit.

When you vomit on the keyboard and pass out beneath the desk you can wake up wait out the Hang Over, buy a new Keyboard then just go pick her up right where you left her in the Blockade Lvl 4.

TANK THE ******* SUN!

Besides moments of extreme inebriation you will want the Mach though.

For sure, I sorta wanted a rattler as well. But that boat sailed as soon as I trained t2 medium projectiles lol. Perhaps in the very distant future.

So I am on the road for a machariel. Right after I get t2 large turrets and Minmatar battleship V. lol will be well worth the wait though. Thank you for the advice everyone, happy flying.

Angel ships have gallente bonus this is the only reason you should train that crappy race, up to 4 nothing more nothing less, hybrids are crap, and will still be it after the changes so if you're willing to spend time for useless stuff go ahead.

I'd say go Amarr now, you can't do it wrong unless you really want to use angel ships but forget about hybrids, it's plain crap has it stands and since they're not willing to give those range or faster ships they will always be the last choice you should do.

As a Gallente pilot, I say go Amarr.

Despite having T2 hybrids and decent drone skills, I retrained for lasers and plumped for Amarr BS V over Gal Bs V.

The lineup is just generally more useful and you get to pew-pew.

And if on the odd chance you have sound on, Tachyons sound amazing.

Something tells me the winter patch is going to damage the sterling credentials of the angel ships (either that or ccp will give up entirely on that "balance," thing they've been talking about). Based on that conjecture, I say go amarr and get the other half of the best non-pirate faction pvp ships in eve that don't rhyme with "brake," and "mengu."
