Stealth ship maintenance bay nerf

Ships with a ship maintenance bay have recieved a stealth nerf -- as of incarna client update #3's downtime (Sep 8?), you will be unable to directly board a ship from a ship with a ship maintenance bay if an aggressive module or drone is active against your ship.

If you use a ship with such a capability, adjust your tactics accordingly.

Note: I have not had an opportunity to test this in AOE-effect environments (smartbombs + bubbles)

Has a petition or bug been filed regarding this? Have you tried ship swaping if it's only a NPC aggroing you rather than a player?

Nice catch -- I have actually only tested this with player aggression.
However, why would I bother filing a petition? It gets zero affirmative response from CCP, and is a waste of time for a game I already pay 15bux a month for.

Good riddance. Hated that gate/station tactic.

It's all part of CCP's masterplan to get all ninjas out into null....

And a sudden plunge in the sullen swell. Ten fathoms deep on the road to hell.

Well, it's only taken two and half years to patch this, but at least they got to it.

Warp off a short distance, reship, go back.

Having the orca sat right next to the ship that had been baited (or warping and landing on it) has always been an utterly terrible mechanic.

I hope this change is intentional.

just a shame they didnt take the time to fix the scoop tactic as well, if a ship is aggressing you should not be able to scoop the ship to sma

Does this apply to stations as well? Will this end station games?

Nope. Station games are still working as intended.

I would suggest that CCP actually FIXED something here!! ShockedShocked

"Scooping" your ship into a carrier/rorq etc next to a station to evaid the agression timer never was a good or commendable tactic in my book.

At least CCP can do some things right! Lol

Stations game can't and won't end unless they completely remove docking, sadly. This is however a huge leap in making them less terrible.

Actually.... This does absolutely nothing to help station games, which is a shame. About the only way to help with station games is still to have bump machariels/cynabals/stabbers on standby.

It would be one thing if this had been documented in the patch notes, or even let out in a forum post somewhere -- as it is, it looks like one more piece of crap on the pile of quick hacks CCP thinks will be sufficient for fixes.

However the priority list must look like boggles me, considering other problems such as guns still un-grouping, the UI windows dropping framerates by 90% in many situations, aggression timer race conditions, >50% of the online population being likely bots, and the list only goes on.

If you want to help with station games, a mechanic change such as making RR give an aggression countdown if the person the RR goes to is also aggressed, or a 2nd hictor anti-dock script or any number of other bits could help. This undocumented hack doesn't change any of that though, so its really beside the point.

Having 90% of the subscribers be for most practical (not all Cool) intents and purposes invulnerable in a MMO has always been an utterly terrible mechanic.

I may be reading too much into this, but if you mean it is supposed to 'patch' people upshipping on grid, it doesn't do that. It's just a dirty reactive hack whose effects were poorly considered and/or planned.

Also, these new forums are terrible, if you take the time to write anything longer than a tweet, a CSRF something or other will expire and your post text will be nuked.

It boils down to one concept that I thought CCP was on board with supporting: Space is a dangerous place. Since CCP has decided to not allow real capital ships into high security space, those of us that engage in combat with the scourge that are mission runners have no other option to ship swapping but to use industrial capitals otherwise known as Orcas.

If this proves to be a silent nerf, I would question CCP's intentions here. Really, what is the company saying by allowing a change that essentially goes against the pure physics of the situation? I understand its their game to break and mess up as they want to. However, for the most part, CCP has done a decent job of making changes, that while might not always make sense, at least had some scientific backing to them. If the "nerf" is permanent, what and who is enforcing it? Is it CONCORD? Obviously, that does not make sense because we all know that police are never a great deterrent to most criminals. Also, you have the issue of how would a handful of agents support this change? In the vastness of even high security space, it seems unlikely that someone would be able to stop you from swapping ships when they are AUs away. Who else would then be enforcing it?

My personal theory is that CCP has decided that instead of having an actual original game that applauds PvP and ingenuity, they have bent to the pressure of the would be Rift and WoW lovers who have hated any advantage PvP players have over them. The "care bear" community really is not threatened by ninja gankers if they are smart like most miners and not give a reason for aggression to be flipped back upon them. The burden has been placed on them forever to not shoot if they care to not have their expensive toys taken away from them. Most mission runners understand this concept and refuse to be baited. Now, CCP seems to be moving to the protector of all things PvE as its competitors in the MMO marketplace have done for years. Its a pity if this change sticks, but it will once again, after the probing nerf of this expansion, prove that CCP would rather have little mission bears running around doing quests and feeding the markets of high security space and move actual PvP to low and null sec and wormhole space. Welcome to Space Rift and Comsic WoW!

Thats because of me. I put a petition in for one of your members using this exploit to "escape Death" Using his orca alt. I do not find shooting 3 ships, when losing the battle to 1 single person, then escaping with all his ships intact, very amusing.

It's one thing baiting people for some ( very rare 1 v 1 ) easy PvP. that, i dont have a problem with. That, i fully support. What i dont like is players using exploits, & cheating themselves out of losing, where a pilot has no chance of winning.

So i, as well as others, will very much welcome this change. It seems, from all the tears your guys have been causing latley, its only fitting to see tears coming from you Lol

+1 for Stealth Ship change nerf. Thanks to GM Homonoia for taking action against this exploit Big smile

Well, I for one, have never lost those odds. I don't claim to be Garmon but I actually know how to win at internet spaceships. Basically, all you are condoning is the fact that your ilk want to continue being able to shoot people in small ships and be able to disengage before someone can even the odds. Thats all well and good, but its a cop out in all reality. Luckily for you weak mission runners, CCP is here to save you.
