Question on smart bombing the warp path

Yesterday i was traveling through low sec with some goodies in a frigate. I was warping to zero at the gate when BAM i get insta gibbed by a smart bomb 50k out from the gate. Was it blind luck that his smartbomb went off exactly as I was passing by? I would think getting ganked in such a fashion would not be allowed as I didnt have a choice in the matter. Any thoughts?

He was sitting on the gate, cap stable, running multiple smartbombs, that is how you got killed...it wasn't random luck that he turned them on when you landed, they were already on.

And about you saying it shouldn't be allowed...this is eve...

p.s....it's very, very easy to avoid a smartbomb camp...

lesson learned?

More then likely he lit them as your ship came on grid, that will usually get all your bombs on the target for a cycle. Can be avoided by fitting a bit of a buffer or not warping on normal warp paths (gate to gate).

And of course it should be allowed. This is Eve.

I have no problem getting ganked and if it is a normal legit tactic then im fine with it. My issue was that it seemed like i was still in warp. I assume that I must have landed on grid the very instant the bomb went off, if that was the case then sure lesson learned.

OIC, yes you died in warp, and yes once that warp was started you were ******. However, as stated, methods exist to avoid it.

This lack of simultaneity between what you saw and what your attacker saw (and could react to) is a side effect of the network latency, or delay, between your location and the EVE servers.

You cannot bomb right on a gate, last time i did it was at least 5 km from the gate.
The tactic is zoom out, keep mouse over a bomb and tactical overview on, and
you can see a sphere in space. Watch the ships exit warp and right before entering
that sphere activate bombs. Takes a bit of practice.

always fly ship that has at least 5000 ehp, then you might survive single smart bomb bs. You can activate damage control on warp so it helps a lot on small ship.

I lost a full HG Snake set + other implants worth around 3.2bn isk due to warping to a gate with a smartbomber on it. I knew he was there, i had the bookmarks to avoid it. A momentary lapse of concentration cost me the expense of a full pirate set.

It was my fault.

The clues were there.

have a look at this video. Duncan from Genos Occidere explains Scouing and Directional scanning. Very educational videos in general.

theres soem various stuff in this that applies to null sec, but basicly it applies to all sec systems, theres a part that explains how you warp to a gate not in the gate to gate warp warp path, but 'bounce' to e.g. a planet first and do a dscan before you warp all the way to the gate. in this video hes looking for bubbles in 0.0 but same would apply for looking for any ships at a gate.
it also explains how you can warp to a gate that doesnt have celestial close by and still be in dscan range.

for low sec you would be ablt to just fly to any celestial first that makes you get fairly of the warp path and be able to jump thru. F10 is your friend to see which celestial are good to warp to.
