How is one actually supposed to find things to pirate?

I'm not really worried about racking up kills, to be honest. What drew me to piracy were all the stories of people ransoming ships, is that something that just doesn't take place anymore?

Just popping people's ships doesn't sound all that entertaining. I'd much rather listen to them cry for a bit before I pop them.

Hence why ransoming doesn't really happen anymore.

You don't make money pirating. 500k for a module here, 1m there and that is about it. Fools fitting faction mods are very few and far between.

This isn't always true... =)

Pay attention to when null sec residents evacuate and figure out what low sec systems they are using that border HS. Wait for morons to jump freighters in... Its going to take a few tries to get the tactics down to fool scouts but you'll get a rush and laugh when you realize you need to protect your own freighter on a gate to scoop the loot. The laughing gets harder when you realize there are shrink wrapped ships in the loot. Not many other times you can loot a fit redeemer (or two and a legion Twisted).

Also figure out what logistics routes null sec renters use. They're more likely to make mistakes :)

Piracy is about targeting and intel :)

Every day I'm wafflin!

So joining a corp would help with the pirating?

How would I go about finding a decent corp? The forums or that in-game corp finder? I've poked around a bit and don't see anything that seems like it would suit what I would like to do. Should I just fly through space until someone tries to ransom my ship and then talk to them?

That sounds like it'd be fun.

Oh, and thanks so much for the fast replies. Helped a bunch.

The forums are probably more useful than the in-game corp finder, though both have their place. I joined R1FTA after being blown up repeatedly by some guy and having a bit of a chat with him afterwards. We get a surprising number of recruits this way. Fly through space and try to ransom some other bastard's ship, then talk to them if they blow you up. Low sec piracy doesn't get the best press, but a lot of the currently active corps are quite happy to take on new guys, and most of us are looking for COLD STEEL COJONES rather than proven success or ability.

How singular. Cold steel Mexican bollocks, then.
