There is a great sketch with a swedish comedian playing wow where someone ninjaed the loot. He yelled some at the ninja and was then asked by the interviewer if there was anything he could do about it. Answer was: No.

In EVE there are several things you can do. Be creative ... you can even bump him :)

Too bad it is in swedish but here is the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GIhcL8K4shg

F**k you and excuse the rant/roidrage. EVE is a sandbox.

When I mine I am don't give a damn about if you are mining from a from a rock in space. My sole purpose is to gather as much resources as possible in a short a possible a time and if that means I am mining from the same rock as you, then go call the waaaaaaaaambulance or something. As far as I am concerned it is just PvP in another form (save the blatantly obvious one of shooting at other players).

Besides, have you paid your mining fee?

Lol WTF is wrong with you?

It was a simple question from a noob.

Now pick up your little toys, put them back in your little pram and we wont say anything more about your ridiculous outburst, m'kay?

Better he learn the nature of EVE quickly rather being coddled and babied with. WTF, stop being a pansy with the noobs.

this is commonplace. though both the motives and solution vary.

if there's only one other person in a full belt and they are mining your roid, chances are they're trolling you. solutions for this may include wholesale destruction of the entire solar system; we'll refer to this as the nuclear option henceforth. another approach would be to move to a different roid or system.

if a group comes in with a fleet of exhumers and vacuums up everything in site, including your roid, don't take it personally. you still have the nuclear option, but would probably benefit from moving several systems away.

in either case, don't get your panties in a bunch.

If you think somone else shooting your rock is bad..wait until someone starts shooting your ship. I bet then youll wish they were only shooting your rock still.

Since the cessation of their usefulness is imminent, may I appropriate your belongings?

EVE is one of the few games where language barriers don't get broken up by servers. It's possible he doesn't speak english. That might not excuse the behavior but it could explain ignoring you.

Of course they may have been a macro. I don't know.

On the topic of manners and conduct though, any time I enter a new system or set of systems, I pay attention to local. In a few days I can find out who is local and who isn't. For all you know, this guy might have been mining that system for 2 years, put up with 'noobs' time after time. You need to understand, EVE doesn't see many true new players. They see a lot of Alts. To him you were just another alt testing the system for some war dec griefing.

There is another option. One I'm not very fond of but in truth it works. Approach him at high speeds. "Bump" him. Do it often. Keep doing it. Try and push him away from the rocks he is targeting. It's a very shoddy mechanic and it's very annoying.

Hi there new friend! It's nice to see more people being concerned with proper mining etiquette in highsec.

If you find yourself among more hooligans, I recommend you report your exact location to any member of The New Order, and we shall ensure the noncompliant miscreants are swiftly dealt with.

Prior to doing this, however, I would recommend that you study The New Halaima Code of Conduct, to prevent any embarrassing noncompliant mining on your part.

Have fun, and welcome to EVE!

I'm new to EVE, so I don't know if claim jumpers are viewed in a poor light or whatnot. I was mining an asteroid, and some other miner started mining the rock I was on. Is that considered bad manners?

In other games it's considered bad manners to gather resources someone else is working on, but this is EVE, where even piracy is encouraged, and thus the question is posed.

I tried to message the miner, but was refused communications.

What should I make of all this?

That was very rude.

EvE ettiquette demands that he allow you full access to your roid until your cargo is full, and then suicide gank you for an even chance at gaining all your ore and salvage.

I'd consider filing a petition.

I don't see why you can't share the rock than move on to the next one when that one is depleted. It's not like a drop with one item. The rock has thousands of units of little value. And a duplicate rock right next to it. Not to mention when the goons show up they might nuke the other guy nstead of you.

Do not assume anything above this line was typed by me. Nerf the Truth, it's inconvenient.

Dont see anyone coddling or babying him.

There wasnt any tears even, just asking if it was okay to get even is what I read.

And my advice was to get even.

So... like, put the roids down, go to the prison library, and learn your way out.

Yes, moving in on another gentleman's 'roid is considered poor etiquette. You have a few options, though:

-If you enjoy a little competitive bantering, you can call him out in local chat. Enjoy some verbal combat while you're filling your hold. This is more fun if there are some spectators around in Local to 'ROFL', 'WTF', etc., and otherwise keep score for you. But before engaging in verbal warfare, you must be prepared to completely exterminate the trespasser's mind and ego. 'Never deal your enemy a slight injury.' Machiavelli said something like that.

-If the trespasser won't respond to verbal baiting, he might be a bot. Either way, he should be reported as such.

-Dock up and come back something that can fit a Festival Launcher. Lonely spot in high sec, guy is spacing out while mining, and suddenly he's targetted and being hit by dazzling colored explosions. Most people freak out and hit Warp before they figure out it's just fireworks hitting them.

-Read about 50 pages of guides on the mechanics of high sec aggression, i.e. what will get you or the other guy CONCORDed. Get him CONCORDED or gank him and get CONCORDED.

-Follow him around for the rest of the evening, mining whatever 'roid he chooses to mine. Keep your ship within 500m of his for companionship and camaraderie.

Supported.

Three accounts. All day off. That's three roids I can keep locked down all day long, and only other griefers can stop me.

What could *possibly* go wrong with an idea like this?

If you're driven to threaten others with harm or violence because of what they do in game, you can't separate fantasy from reality. That "griefer/thief" is probably more sane than you are. How screwed up is that?
