What if T3 cruisers were shapeshifters?

Have you people lost your marbles here? People are actually discussing having shape shifting ships in eve..... That is, ships which can transform and and change shape whilst flying in space....... lol How exactly would that be explained whilst keeping a straight face. I'm sorry, it isn't going to happen unless we discover some unknown new mystery technology which allows T4 ships.

Well, they already shapeshift inside station so it is not such a far stretch .... And the original idea was not to make it possible to shift during active flight or combat, rather it should be a vulnerable state only possible sitting stil, with full cap and no aggro.

We're not talking about the actual shape but about changing the roles / fittings a ship uses, on the fly.

Stupidity should be a bannable offense.

Fighting back is more fun than not.

Sticky: AFK Cloaking Thread It's not pretty, but it's there.

That would be totally reasonable.

It is even more reasonable to balance such powerful ability with certain restrictions (see updated OP) like having to decide propuslion sub in station.

How about just making T3s flexible ships as CCP currently have planned. No one has been asking for transformers in space.

Yeah no, a fair few of us actually have. It's the only way the "flexible" role of the T3s can actually be feasibly achieved for the pricetag.

As long as it is only out of combat and combined with sufficient drawbacks, yeah why not. You could have some kind of nanite-cloud around the ship while it is rearranging its subsystems and modules.

And as long as the spare subsystems/modules properly drop when the T3 is destroyed Pirate...

I'm suprised Doc hasn't commented in here with his one line troll post...Shocked

It's human nature to want to explore. To find your line and go beyond it. The only limit, is the one you set yourself.

Ok well thinking about what you said and this thread made me start thinking....

Faction Tech 3 Shapeshifting Strategic Cruiser

"Blood Legion"

Cargo Bay Reprocessing Subsystem - Although this subsystem uses the same armor nano-assemblers as the Augmented Plating Subsystem, its function is entirely different.

Captives and other human beings scooped from space (in the form of Pods, both Casuleer and regular Escape Pods as well as space suited individuals) are placed into the Ante-Chamber, Long metal pins pierce their flesh through the elbows and knees and affix them to the flensing tables ready for vivisection. Their clothing is burned from their bodies with a chemical laser, set to cease once non-organic material is has been removed.

The tables are then carried carried along the corridor on a conveyor belt in extreme comfort and past murals depicting Mediterranean scenes, towards the rotating knives which begin the two hour long process of carefully and very slowly separating flesh from bone and pumps drain the fluids from the bodies and sorts them into their various categories.

The blood pours down chutes into the collection tanks and the mangled flesh slurps into a matter compressor similar to that used for making Fuel Blocks.

Using the theorised "shape-shifting" concept, the bay can be reconfigured to quickly crush and pulp the living captives into cubes if the pilot considers her ship to be in danger of being attacked by local enemies.

Subsystem Skill Bonus: 10% Cargo Bonus per level for organic matter

You think after the clamour of OP cruisers that this is ever going to happen?

I think that might be a good idea but only if they can make it work on cruisers first without breaking the game.

I like this idea. With the proper restrictions it would also give 1-account wormhole dwellers like me a bit of extra flexibility. Wouldn't need a POS (or could go longer without one). When I first heard of t3's this is what I thought they would be anyway.

I like to lick things.

Haunting the forums since 03.

I would like the capability.

What I think people are asusming is that it will be an instant transformation.

As an example of someone who is rejecting the idea outright by making terrible assumptions.

The transformation would (and should) have some drawbacks. For one, it should take some time. For another, there should be a restriction on active modules, and you shouldn't be able to dock or jump while changing, for example. A few limitations like that and this could be a very workable idea.

What if one of the T3 ships had to take a "fitting" subsystem for each one the other T3 wants to change? Similar to a Carrier fitting system, except you can't refit out of "fitting" subs, nor fit into them, outside a station. The "fitting" subs would also give woefully low numbers of modules and give no bonuses to anything, making that ship very vulnerable, whilst allowing your T3 gang to be much more flexible.

This way, a solo T3 ship can't screw you over, and if you find the fitting T3 then the rest are stuck. I'd see this being great for Wormholing, where the crew can "fit up" on the fitting ship, scan the system, then fit into cloak, scout, then fit into combat, and shoot.

EDIT: By each sub, I mean they'd have to take Offensive fitting, defensive fitting, prop fitting etc. if his friends wanted to refit offensive, defensive, and prop. So you could go half and half to keep some vestige of effectiveness at being a ship in your own right whilst providing some refitting.

EDIT 2: The "fitting" subs would also be very expensive, and would make the whole tactical T3 roam super-expensive because everyone needs multiple subs in cargo, along with other modules, to take advantage of it.
