Drones in space move away during DT

If you warp to within 0m of an asteroid belt and then move close to a piece of ore, deploy your drones and then start mining with them, what happens if they're still in space when the daily DT hits?

Well before the update they would stay next to you, but now after the update for some reason they return to where you warped into the asteroid belt?!? When you log back in after DT you are still parked next to the rock you were mining but now you have to travel at least 15km back to the warp point to collect them back up and then go back to the asteroid again. This is very annoying but also what would happen if you didn't go back in quickly after the DT, presumably the drones would still be sitting in the middle and easy pickings for anyone who comes along and fancies collecting your drones.

I'm sure I remember reading in the release notes that they were going to make drones easier to keep hold of, or was that just my imagination?
