Hello,
is there any list of missions, where blaster fits are better than rails? Or at least not that worse. I mean lot of close orbiting Bs, not a lot of 70 km ranged ships 60km apart from each other

L4 damsel in distress from top of my head Large blastors though .(null L ammo)

Not sure what TE nerf did to blastors but i know that only large blastors had a shoot at any decent mission running, and even then there was better options.

Pre nerf Talos pic

^ There was me blasting structure from 30km out easy very solid dmg projection again for Blastors.

After nerf i didn't run blastors in missions only in few DED site Trying out EoS(medium guns) for few hours, but blasters need every km of range they can possibly get so i would not bet on em now.

Damsel, Stop the Thief, Angel Pirate invasion(if no BS gets bumped off from the station and lands 200km away from you) out of my head.

I generally prefer Rails, because in many situations they do the same or even more dps on the target.

If it is more about that you actually want to fly something like a blaster BS and combine that with good L4 times, I would look into puls lasers. Nearly the same gank, massive ranges and with the new navy apoc even a hull that makes mwding around in L4 quite fun(it a lot easier if you have 91km optimal with your close range weapon instead of 9km). Most Angel Missions and maybe 30% of Serpentis/Guristas. The problem with Serp/Gur is Damp/Jam so if you don't have Sentries or sensor mods on the ship a Blaster setup would be very difficult. I use 2-3 different ships for LvL 4's because it's simply more efficient to have a couple fully fitted ships to just 'make active' than it is to change 1 ship's fittings to suit different mission types (1-Blaster, 1-2 Range). I don't have a specific list but if you follow Eve Survival, they're listings for mission are fairly accurate and usually tell you what the spawn and orbits are for ships.

Frankly there are just too many missions that are Blaster applicable and FAR too many that aren't to list.

Can't think of any specifics off the top of my head, but running missions in Minmatar space will probably yield the best results. Angels tend to get into autocannon range quite quickly, and blasters are only a short burn from there.

It also depends on what your blaster platform is. I made a blaster proteus for the lulz. It can perma-run a MWD and go ~1.5km/sec all the time. The real problem is that's sometimes too fast for my blasters to track, which leads to a lot of micromanaging of speed that's not fun. (Slow to 800 m/s to shoot something, speed up to full to close on next target, etc.)

It's an interesting ship, it's certainly not optimal for running 4s. Then again I used to run a couple 4s in a Slicer just because it was hilarious. Except for the part where I would orbit a BS and could go AFK for 2 mins, and would have barely broken its tank. (Real men AFK mission run 4s in a frigate... or something like that.)

Just to see how dumb an idea it was I ran Serpentis Blockade in a blaster Astarte a few times. It worked. I wouldn't recommend it.

And yeah, medium blasters and large blasters are very different beasts for these purposes. One might work in some missions whereas the other might be preferred in others. And of course there are almost always better options available either way.

There's basicalyl only two ships that can use blasters in missions and get away with it.

These being the Rokh and the Vindicator. The rokh because it has this massive range boost (for blasters ofc). And the shield fitted vindi because it has a massive damage output (and fairly decent tracking to start off with).
A mega isn't as viable due to two reasons: A it hasn't the slots for a a shield tank, and consequently B it's too slow to armor tanka AND use blasters.

So back to the rokh (I'd recommend this as it's quite price/quality efficient): An MWD is a huge plus, although you can get away with a decent afterburner. But with null you should be pushing around 40km, more if you fit tracking mods in the lows, but that might mess with your tank. with some mag stabs and TII drones you should be able to pump about 800DPS out, it may need help with tracking hwoever..

The vindi (utterly expensive): Absolutely needs an MWD, it's utterly useless without it. Next is the choice of gank versus tank. With all tracking and damage in the lows and TII sentries the vindi is capable of pushing out in excess of 2000DPS (this is assuming some large hybrid damage implants and faction mag stabs). Your tank hwoever will be rather flimsy, the cap even more so, with ASB it's a viable mission fit, but i would not recommend it. Unless you go for 3 TII CCC, and an officer shield booster (which pushes the price up even more).
It might be preferable to sacrifice damage mods in the lows for reactor diagnostics to get more cap to the mids. You should still be able to pump out about roughly 900-1000DPS this way (and you'll likely be wondering why you spent as much isk as you did).

My Kronos wants to have a word with you. Ganks only a little worse than Vindi and does it without tank/cap compromise.

To OP: Damsel in Distress is about the only mission which can be well done with blasters and without a propulsion mod (but boy, they are blazing in there). With MWD or at least AB there's quite a deal of L4s you can do and achieve performance on similar level like you did it with rails. Though the deal is that you have to plan in advance where you want to be after you kill you current target(s).

1) The vindi is no more expensive than some of the other Pirate BS's for Missioning like the Mach and Nightmare.

2) MWD is not "required" any more on the Vindi than any other Mission ship. You fit the Vindi with (4) Faction MagStabs and (3) TE II's. This gives you the ability to hit to 45km+, though for obviously low dmg at that projection. But most Angel NPC's spawn and orbit extremely close and the Web bonus with a 14-15km Web = those Large Blasters will even r*pe Frigates.

3) Flimsy tank? You have no concept of how to fit a Mission Vindi if you think it has a flimsy tank as Active Shield. With (2) Faction Invulns and a Deadspace XL Booster you can tank ANY LvL 4. The Pith C-Type XL Shield Booster is only like 80-mil ISK. This is the preferred and nearly standard now setup for the Blaster Vindi and AC Mach in Missions. Add HG Crytsals + Gun damage Imps and LvL 4's are literally a joke in this or the Mach for those Missions where the NPC are close enough.

4) Cap is non-issue when you fit a Cap Booster, as ALL Active tanked Mission ships should if they're concerned about only having 2-6 min of Cap with everything running. The mere concept of being cap stable is lunacy and terribly inefficient.

5) CCC's are inferior to Core Defense Capacitor Safeguard Rigs. You only need (2) T2 of those, the 3rd Rig is a T2 Hybrid for Range. Blaster Vindi has 0.1+ Tracking with good skills and (3) TE II's.

6) Rokh, Vindi, Hyperion (post Odyssey = poor man's Vindi) and Kronos are all valid Blaster platforms for some LvL 4's, as long as people understand they will need a second fit or entirely different ship for ranged Missions.

Im flying kronos, and i like the idea of getting in range and "now you melt" rather than shooting nonstop and slowly wearing down oponents. In some missions its doable and in some it is totaly ******** idea to take blasters, thats why i created this thread, if anyone had few missions i can put on list - ok i can fit most dmg weapon platform in game.

I really like Damsel cause I can break out my blaster vindicator and wreck them. But it's about the only mission I would though.

To put some numbers on a thing so that you can figure out a little better what you can actually do with a Blaster setup (which is half or more of Angels, and roughly 30% of Serpentis/Gursitas).

Vindicator = Highest capable Range & Tracking (~45km & 0.1), with highest capable DPS (nearly 2k within Void opt of ~9km+), bonus Web, most expensive [Setup as 3-slot Active Shield Tank, 4 Fed MagStabs + 3 TE IIs].

Hyperion = 2nd highest Range, 3rd for Tracking (~43km & 0.07), 2nd highest DPS (almost 1600 within Void opt of ~9km), cheapest [setup as same as Vindi minus Web].

Kronos = Lowest Range, 2nd for Tracking (~37km & 0.08), also 2nd highest DPS (almost 1600 within Void opt of ~8km), bonus Tractors, 2nd most expensive [setup as 3-slot Active Armor Tank, 4 Fed MagStabs + 2 TC IIs].

Rokh = 3rd for Range, lowest Tracking (~42km & 0.06), lowest DPS (just over 1200* within Void opt of ~11km), also cheapest [setup as 3-slot Active Shield**, 4 Fed MagStabs + 1 TE II & 1 TC II].

* Rokh's DPS calculated with 5 Hobgoblin II's instead of 5 Mediums as Mediums can have issues at times killing elite Frigs.
** Rokh has serious Cap issues even with a Large Cap Booster II, which all other fits had as well.

With the above numbers you can safely run most/any Missions where the NPC's spawn/orbit under 30KM in any of the above ships. Add the fact that most Angels tend to orbit under 10km then all of the above ships would work fine, but the higher damage (higher Tracking included) would be superior. Now the other way to look at this, on ANY Mission where the NPC's spawn/orbit less than 30km and certainly less than 10km no Railgun ship will be capable of killing anything so Blasters it is.

#1 = Vindi
#2 = Kronos/Hype (really depends on budget/skills here)
#3 = Rokh (and it's a pretty poor choice overall)

  • Angel Extravaganza (bonus room NPC's do orbit close enough but start @ 70km+)
  • Attack of the Drones*
  • A Case of Kidnapping (Behemoth being the only distant target @ 50km+)
  • Covering Your Tracks
  • Damsel in Distress
  • Downing the Slavers [Rogue Slave Trader] pt1 & 2
  • Duo of Death
  • The Mouthy Merc
  • Rogue Drone Harassment*
  • Serpentis Ship Builders
  • Soothe The Savage Beast
  • Vengeance (Hoborak Moon being the only required target @ 50km+)

  • * Drone Missions are by choice. Unless you have great Drone skills and/or a bonused Web + great Tracking (Vindi) it'd be near impossible to kill the Frigate sized Drones in said Missions with Blasters.

This list is by no means complete nor comprehensive but I can say with 90% accuracy that those listed above are certainly doable with a Blaster setup as long as you can achieve at least 35km with Null and/or have an AB fit (MWD not necessary). Considering that even Null is often more DPS than any Railgun setup, it's a win-win.
