Planetside is the most direct competitor I could imagine. What is DUST's selling point when compared to Planetside 2?

Literally the only thing is the connection to Eve, something that the average console player isn't going to care about.

And what many Eve players despise. Odd how very little is ever thought out.

The whole DUST concept and the Eve connection is something that sounds interesting on paper, but is terrible in practice.

Looks like CCP need to hurry up and get their so called 'AAA shooter' up to scratch. There will be a number of free to play shooters that will be launching with the PS4 that are much more highly polished than dust.

They who murdered Galaxies.

The NGE was Lucasarts, blame them.

Is the Emu still going?

Yup.

Always wanted to try the emo, but everytime i go to try i remember the only reason i played SWG was the same reason i play EVE, all the friends i had made that i could explore and **** around in a cantina with.

but yeah, came into SWg a month before CU, CU was tolerable, but i had to cry myself to sleep every night after NGE, ended up quitting a month ro two after the big protest in Theed where Admins teleported everyone to instadeath zones.

Will this affect future development on the console platform?

I have always doubted Dust would do particularly well anyway. I love the idea of Dust, and the planning and thought behind it are fantastic, but ultimately it has become a pretty mediocre game and Planetside 2 will trample all over it.

I will go against the grain here and I say I enjoy Dust :)

Yeah it has its faults (like every game) but it will be continued to be improved.

As for PS2.. downloaded for PC.. played, realised after 5 minutes that unless you use some kind of bot you don't stand a chance so download a bot, got banned.

Created new account.. had some fun, zerg, some more zerg, got banned. Repeat until get bored of zerg, un-installed a short time later.

I've started out playing FPS on the PC back with quake, quake2, Unreal, the days when when you wanted to play multi-player it involved actually moving your physical rig to some venue.

The reason I stopped and moved over to console was because I got sick of all the bots that were being used.

Not saying that they don't exist on consoles but they are far less prevalent then on PC.

But who has a PS3? Sad

World Wide ps3 out sells xbox 360 even though xbox had a year head start on sales. So my guess is a fair amount of people have a ps3

North America, 44 million xbox 360's and 27 million PS3's worldwide, the overall sales are identical, the only reason for this, is because the PS3 was very popular in japan.

No, one of the major reasons why the PS3 sold well is because when it was released it was the cheapest way to have a blu ray player

In regards to sales, well it all depends which article / publication / marketing company you want to believe.

"According to Games Industry International, a “market analysis” document by Lewis Ward of IDC (the International Data Corporation) called the Worldwide Video Game Entertainment Console Hardware and Packaged Software 2012-2016 Forecast showed a prediction of hardware as well as software sales over the coming quadrennium. As for December, 2012, it is said that “Sony’s PS3 managed to surpass the number of Xbox 360s shipped worldwide (about 77 million vs. 76 million), despite the PS3 launching a year later.”

Personally I would say both companies have sold damn near enough the same units to makes no difference.

I wouldn't call it terrible. For me Dust is a game that needs a lot of polishing but you can see massive potential. It is much more involved and has much more scope and depth then any other FPS game.

CCP isn't known for its ability to polish features. How long has DUST been indev and even basic combat control/movement is still very sluggish? I doubt console players have the same patience as Eve players have when it comes to waiting for improvements.

People really need to stop with this "potential" nonsense. Everywhere I the internet, I see DUST bashed for being a very mediocre game that doesn't live up to the hype in any way. Yet, there are always the guys basically saying "Yeah, the game sucks, but I'm gonna give it a 10 out of 10 cuz it has the POTENTIAL to be awesome!".

Yes, I was very excited for the DUST concept, but it's been in dev for what, 5 years? It also has had a basically open beta (buy in with a cheap merc pack for over a year) and the basic mechanics of the game are still mediocre to bad. This doesn't even count the fact that, feature wise, it is about as bare-bones as a FPS can get. If they haven't gotten anywhere close to right by now, it's gonna take another 5 years for them to possibly realize any "potential". CCP has also proven, time and time again, that they are horrible at releasing a barebones feature and later realizing its potential. 99% of the time, it is just left broken or reiterated and reiterated until it is even more broken.

I have the "potential" to win the lottery, but it's more likely I'll drown in a bucket somewhere along the line. The sad part about DUST is, even if it drowns in a bucket, it'll still likely be kept on life support by EVE's profits. It is painful to think how much of EVE's profits have been pissed away on the project already for the extremely mediocre product that officially launched a month ago.
