Level 4 Mission Runner aiming dual box

*** Also posted in Ships/Module, apologies for double post however I have no responses there and there's overlap in my question ***

I'm looking to start running level 4's, I almost have the skills and my preference will be to dual box them in a couple of months time when my alt is trained up.

I really like the idea of a laser boat however pre-Odyssey there were some complaints about Amarr mission boats being useless after the patch.

So I have a couple of questions and could use some pointers:

- Navy Armageddon feasible? If not, what BS would you suggest that's not going to break the bank (can't afford pirate BS just now)
- Beam or Pulse lasers?
- My preference is to run identical BS for ease of use, is this a good plan?

Thanks in advance

When I run a cap hungry dual box I run a nurse domi with the main. Then you can feed all the power you want to one ship and save up mids for utility. You simply set the domi drones to assist the main and its a lot less micromanagement.

As mentioned a noctis pilot with all 5's is a great asset BTW. I would rather single box and then salvage, and if your alt is able to accept missions (because you fleeted with it and turned them in over and over) you never have to look far for a good mission.

That being said, in the begining 2 ships are better than one. If you can manage your cap then identical ships arent too hard to manage. I highly recommend ISBoxer if you're going to go that route.

Personally if I were to dual box lv4's I would use a Domi with sentries and attempt to build it so it would remote armor rep my main so purely so I have less micromanagement. Or I use the rattlesnake and FoF missiles with sentry drones. In essence you're going to hit a point where it just feels like a chore doing this so I rather make it as simple as possible to delay it instead of going for straight efficiency as when you get tired of being efficient that second account will become a lot more useless unless you have something more automated like the above setup.

When I need to dual-box the hard ones I got Tengu & SNI.

imo the answer to hard missions is usually more gank as dead npcs do no damage. although sometimes a remote rep or two can also help. Most ships I'd use for missions have some utility highs.

Pulse AND beams! easy to swap between the two with saved fittings.

looking at laser boats it looks like the abaddon became slightly more cap stable and the apoc pretty much lost its cap stability, unless you want to throw a ton of cap mods on it, so it basically becomes similar to an abaddon in cap life. The navy geddon keeps the 10% cap to lasers per level bonus, so it might be the easiest to get cap stable now (if you like that) plus it has a utility high so you could cap chain.

A cap booster fit generally gives a bunch more to the ship than cap recharge mods. but I dunno, 7-8 lasers and an armor tank seem a bit stressful to a cap booster. On the nightmare I run with 3x ccc rigs and a cap booster, the CCC rigs mostly keep the guns running, and the cap booster gets used when the tank gets stressed. Although again with the cap reduction of large lasers the CCCs seem to keep the tank going most of the time too, but a large part of that is also enemies die so fast I don't have to run the tank very long. I like cap boosters a lot, I just don't like using them ALL the time.

the only ship I try to run anywhere near cap stable is the paladin. Pre patch it was ~5 mins of cap according to eft/fitting window. but the recharge was high enough that the short breaks in fire from the lasers between targets was enough that the ship effectively had infinite cap, only became a problem in really long missions or when shooting a structure with lots of hp. Now it has 9:33m in the fitting window, but turn off the tractors/salvagers and that goes to 19:41, might be able to add a t2 rof rig, or swap a cap recharger for an ab or something. The abaddon with a ton of cap mods can be stable and works okay, I used one with megabeams for a while.

Looking at it in eft right now looking at the apoc (and navy apoc) looks like CCCs will keep the guns (mega pulse in this case) stablish, but wont work so well on the abaddon. Mayhaps there is a better rig combo. T2 Energy Discharge Elutriation rigs may be nicer. but between my nightmare with CCCs and my Nightmare with incursion rigging (extender, em, and Energy Discharge Elutriation) I like the one with CCCs better.

why dualbox missions at all? it's more isk loss than isk gain per 2 chars.

More ships = faster kills = more isk. If you're dual boxing then you own both chars so you don't have to split the isk between them. No isk loss.

If you're dual boxing and PLEXing your account its certainly less efficient. You don't get double the income and you have to pay double the cost every month.

If you are paying with cash on multiple accounts you still aren't making twice as much money and still have twice as much in ship and fitting and ammo expenses.

That's why when the Olive garden or TGI Fridays goes on a wait they don't just build a new one.

actually no...

both chars have subscription, ofc if you dont consider that then there is no loss but I dont find it that much profitable to dualbox lvl4 if its **** easy anyway with 1 char...

You are shooting tanked targets. At low character SP levels (low dps), the npc battleships cycle their tanks a lot which increases hps needing to be killed to complete a mission, and it takes a long time to complete. get a disproportionate gain from having 2 characters in pocket. Also each character can tank much less strongly - fit more dps.

At high character SP (high dps) levels they don't cycle their tank, and the time spent moving to gates and warping is constant, so you spend more net time warping than if you ran 2 characters in 2 missions.

easier to pay attention to 2 chars in one mission though. but yes two highly skilled characters will wtfmurderbbq everything VERY quickly. It is more of a pain in the ass to press the undock button twice (not to mention all those other buttons) than to solo some missions.

Just recently I did a few lvl 4's in my pally solo, raped the missions, which where both of the dangerous types with no problems.

My best experience blitzing missions was with some one who braught Machariel in and myself in a Pulse Pally, to sum it down, Angel extravaganza lasted about 15 min, including last room, allot of the good loot was looted and salvaged, so this kind of team would pretty much work perfectly for you.

you would easily be making 150M per hour like this, maybe even into the 200's if you really work it.

This. The more jumps from your agent missions are and more acc gates/kms you need to cover in mission, the worse it is.

But if OP insists on using 2 characters in 1 mission, he should use 2 GUNBOATS (nightmare, paladin, mach, vargur, kronos...), which are both fitted with prop mod (preferably higher meta mwd), individual local tank and tractor beam (bonused is better). I also prefered omnitank so I didnt have to waste time refitting 2 ships, fitting both ships with long range guns and using sensor booster.

Gunboat + drone boat also works but you have to watch drones now so forget about just agroing rats, setting sentries to assist and not caring anymore.

Avoid any kind of rr, remote energy transfer and using missile ships when dual boxing, it will only to lead in wasted time and wasted volleys.
