It's an interesting social situation. Most of us are born to Eve on our own. But Goons and Test come from an outside social community. This is a huge bonus for new players. whisked right to sov null and hand-held early on while the rest of us grind and struggle at first.
But here is the other side of that coin. Loyalties are to Reddit and that social circle first, the reason people got into Eve at all.

So what happens when one part of that circle goes nuts and gets put down like a rabid dog? Just rage-quitting either the game or Test within it, is going to impact your social standing outside the game. Part of the reason the outside community paradigm was successful is that you're less likely to steal from or gank people in Eve that are part of that larger social circle.

But that loyalty now means many players are essentially stuck riding the sinking Test ship all the way to it's grave. Beating a dead horse out of loyalty to something other than the horse.
An alliance not connected outside Eve the way Goons and Test are, would have either had an internal revolt and got set strait when they teetered on the edge of the abyss, or would have had a mass exodus of players as they sought greener pastures. Being tied to a group outside Eve is a double edged sword, and here we see it action, slicing Test thin enough to be used in a tasty sandwich.

The charismatic leader Test had that drove their loyalty is gone. They gave up leadership of the HBC then got expelled (or left, depending on who you ask). All this made Test into 'just another' alliance in game. And one that is currently under massive attack by pretty much everyone with an onlined launcher or turret.
Pretty soon Test will be giving handjobs behind the moons of Jita IV just to buy Rifters.

Does make one wonder if the Reddit crew simply found another game to direct members into. Rarely are fail-cascades quite so spectacular as this one, and going 'all in' with your chips usually means you're ready to be done playing, win or lose.

Grinding Sov Sucks (tm).
