When dude with 20 accounts cant mine ice anymore guess what he will cancel all of them

i disagree. players like that are the ones who, at the moment, own the ice belts. they turn up and strip them clean in less than an hour. for them this change isn't so bad. they are making huge amounts of isk/hour from it.

the people who will cancel accounts are players like me with say, 3-5 accounts. it's simply not viable to compete with players running 20 accounts. you either accept that your slice of the cake is smaller post odyssey or you diversify. personally i've chosen to diversify.

however yeah, i can see people dropping their 2nd/3rd miner's accounts, and possibly even their orca pilot's accounts. that won't bode well but i'm sure it won't be as bad as eve going free to play.

There are many players with 20+ accounts
I would say one ice belt in empire might support 2 of these players the rest are going to get little to no ice and will cancel

i have been watching this change closely, about 40 players or 2 squads can take down a belt in less than 1.5 hours it then takes another 4 hours to re-spawn. during that time anyone who logs on to mine is SOL that mechanic will = account cancels

I've been watching too as well as checking out ice belt anoms as I come across them while exploring. They not all getting mined out in 1.5 hours. In one system two ice belts were there for over 5 hours. Last night I came across a system with a whole three ships mining the anom.

Granted eve is a game that fudges its economy to make it work, this change gives ccp another mechanic to control the economy. CCP can easily scale ice by increasing often belt spawn or amount of ice that spawns in the belt.
In the end the only rational explanation for this change ccp wants control of this resource and the ability to tweak or fudge the books to keep the economy from crashing. I have feeling if the prices go above what ccp economists wanted they will increase how much ice we get for now its seems they want to dwindle the stock piles people have and stop the price of ice from falling anymore as the demand plummets

The ice mining changes have brought about a profound and wholly unexpected change which is little discussed.
Sometimes the miners now talk to each other in local!
previosuly whole days would pass with over 9000 miners mining the ice in silence.

Money at its root is a form of rationing. When the richest 85 people have as much wealth as the poorest 3.5 billion (50% of humanity) it is clear where the source of poverty is. http://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2014/jan/20/trickle-down-economics-broken-promise-richest-85

I personally was looking forward to dual training with money made from ice mining, now that isn't possible and I am thinking about dropping my ice miners, BPO researcher and indy characters and using the rest for pve, pi, and mining

might even have to sell my Silver Shore overcoat and monocle Shocked

It still is possible, but as you say the slice of pie is smaller so I will keep a few character subbed and do something else. rather do something constantly than wait around for the next spawn, or chase around systems checking for the next anomaly. I can just move from belt to belt with a couple of characters, or run missions.

edit: should have said its not possible to maintain the same amount of income as I was used too in the time I had for the game

can't say i blame you. i'm of the same mindset to be honest. i don't think i'll plex my second miner, might keep my orca pilot, though.
