Any tips on how to hack better? are there skills making it easier? 2 times failed and the can disappears

Looked up...saw this F***ING clown dropping like a rock.  Woke up in Vylade wondering what just happened!!!

Creative yes. He's a bit of a tool for not just giving me some direction. Sure I can read the forums and I do. I posted to see if I could get any specific advice without having to scan through a hundred posts. My way is better.

Train the hacking and archaeology skills. Both will give your virus-thingy extra "HP" and more attack power. Resulting in easier killing of viruses while staying alive longer.
Furthermore the way I like to do it is to pick up all the upgrades you come across. When blocked by a virus first go around if it isn't a restoration node or a defensive node (which you should kill ASAP). Also leave those databases 'till last since they can contain a virus or a tool and should be a last option.

Also remember that if you deal the killing blow you won't take damage!
Hope that helps a bit. I'm now starting exploration in null-sec and it's a bit tougher, but I still only use one structure due to failed hacking for every 20 successful hacks or so.

Rigs, new modules, Science skills, CovOp skill, ships' bonuses... Some give to your 'coherence' some to your 'strength'. That's about it.

Also, learn to listen -- a tip from recent dev-blog on new sounds.

There is a very good article on, I think, themittani.com, or something like that on the new exploration system. There is also another link on this board I think listing what the various containers can contain etc. Remember to fit a cargo scanner and scan the container at the site before you enter the mini-game to see what may be possible to acquire if you are successful. Smile

and that's why I made the post. This right here is something I would not have realized. I just tried it on a null sec data site and its true. There is a sound that is made when you hover your mouse over the next button in the path before you click it. its slightly different depending on whats there. clear path seems to be a sound similar to low level static/Geiger counter

I have a question about rigs. Which rigs affect which analyzer? They still use the old terminology I think as the Emission Scope Sharpener rig says it increases the effectiveness of a ship's analyzer mods, and the Memetic Algorithm Bank rig says it increases the effectiveness of a ship's hacking modules. Since the modules are called data analyzer and relic analyzer its a little confusing as to which rig affects which module.

As I have come to undestand it, the extra Coherence gained by the hacking and archaeology skills and mods affects only the health and not the attack power of your virus and naturally that they don't stack.

I could be wrong of course. I'm just doing fine with both skills at lv3. The only other stuff I use are some scanning equipment. In general I don't have real issues with hacking, except when there are loads of restoration nodes.

The sound thing is true, but after multiple sights im not sure anymore what sound goes to what. it seems the gieger/static sound leads to either clear path or a positive tool like the wrench, not every time though. further investigation is necessary. It is harder to discern also because of the music that plays in the background when you are hacking. anyone know if this is something that can be turned off?


ALSO - Wormhole professional sights DO have sleepers. FYI in case anyone is wondering. Just found that out.

Sounds do not have any direct relation to what a node is. There appear to be chains of sound, that much is certain. Any uncovered, unconnected node has the same sound as the last one you mouse-overed. Running your mouse over multiple nodes of the same sound amplifies it, may be handy. However, I've had nodes with the same sound turn into different things so if there is something to do with sound, it's not the actual sound itself.
