So I was playing around with my navy vexor, new bonuses are amazing by the way thanks CCP, and I was testsing it against my alt in his sleipner. Now I was completely shocked to see just how many misses I was getting even though his angular velocity was under the drones tracking. I figure this has something to do with the angular velocity in comparison to the drones instead of my ship, but Ogres shouldnt be missing a battlcruiser sized ship like this in my opinion!

So my question is, for pvp, is it a wiser decision to go with the minmatar heavy drone for the extra tacking? I mean I even added two traacking mods and was STILL seeing misses.

I'm very inexperienced in pvp and with drones in particular. If someone could please share some wisdom with me it would be greatly appreciated.

Drones have mwd speed and attack speed.

The drones approach the target with mwd on and their first volley strikes while they are at full speed or near to it. This causes a lot of tracking issues (there is no way to see your drones angular relative to their target, your angular is not used for the calculation).

The drones then turn off their mwd and go to attack speed. If that attack speed is less than their targets speed (usually is unless nicely webbed), the drones next volley are out of range causing them to miss and mwd back to target again.

There is a very large element of luck in drone control, based on what your target is doing at the exact moments your drones are firing.

TL;DR

First volley, too fast to hit, second volley too slow to keep up, third volley too fast to hit, fourth volley too slow to keep up, repeat ad nauseam.

As for greater tracking, drones really are bad. They are vulnerable to being shot, and even with max skills i have trouble getting warrior 2's to reliably hit a mwd'ing talos. It really has to be webbed to count. (doesnt stop me trying though)

Just remember to never use ogre's on something that isn't scrammed/webbed.

Basically go through the same thought processes that you would if fitting badly performing guns .. you need range and tracking first and foremost, so yes the Navy Vex will probably do better with Beserkers .. might even have to settle for medium drones against fully mobile targets.

Ogres might be just the ticket for the revised Dominix as it ticks both range and tracking boxes.

But, start taking notes regarding wants/needs of drones as they are slated for revision Soon™, will probably be done in conjunction with a revamp of the eWar drones or rather that would be the logical way of doing it so anyones guess what CCP ends up doing Smile
