Customs offices and Disbanding a colony

Recently I've desired to disband my colonies, as they are in low sec, and I don't really want to keep making the dangerous pickups/launching payloads 500m3 x 3 at a time from each planet (launch from CC, expedited transfer from a storage silo, launch, exp trans from the launchpad, launch again) in roughly 2 hour intervals, then going on a pickup spree.

Can I just launch everything to the customs office, and disband the command center? Or will disbanding the command center before I pick everything up remove access to the customs offices?

I heard that in the winter expansion, Customs offices will be removed, and assets in them will be transfered to the nearest station, is this correct?

Could I launch everything to the customs office, disband the colony (so I can make new ones where I want them right away), and then pick up my stuff at a much later date from the nearest station.
(It would take me multiple trips to haul everything out, and those customs offices in low sec are obvious ambush points, and there is at least 1 person active in space now...)

Why disband the colony? There's no maintenance costs, and you can just leave it all set up and ready to be fired up without using it.
If you desire to go back, that's upwards of 10-20mil a planet. Then there's the time to take it all down, and put it back up.

Unless you want the planet slots for elsewhere, of course.

Yes, you can just decommission the Command Center, but still have access to the Customs Office. However, I suggest that you wait until you empty out the CO (or make a note of which System/Planet) so that you don't forget where you left your cheese.

Indeed, I do want the slots elsewhere

Good grief, I manage my planets once a week, usually bother launching maybe once every two weeks and pick stuff up... whenever but even less often than that. You really enjoy hard work don't you?

Mind you - do you find lowsec pickups to be dangerous? Been doing PI in lowsec since PI is around and I have *never* been attacked at a customs station (sometimes some of the lowsec stations get camped though)

I was thinking the same thing. I've been doing low-sec PI for quite a while now and not once have I felt that my Viator was in any immediate danger. No station camps that an insta-undock didn't get me out of, no gate camps with either the speed or scan res to catch me, and not once have I seen another ship at a CO.

Granted, I do work out of a quiet corner of low-sec, but I think too many people fear what they might run into in low-sec rather than what they're likely to see. Either that, or they remember their 1st trip to Amamake and assume that the experience is typical.

I have, twice I saw a red warp in just as I was nearly aligned for the warp out. After those two close calls I shifted my tactics before I got ganked.

Why are you launching payloads? If you're not in a rush (none really for PI), just go about your business, empty your silos/launchpad to the customs office and then retrieve from customs once in a while when you feel its safe.

The thing about customs offices in low sec is you truely have to be an idiot to actually lose your PI product to a pirate camping it. If you're doing multiple pickups in one system for instance you can still transfer anything you have in your cargo when you warp to your 2nd, 3rd and 4th pickup point to the customs office with plenty of time spare before you are even target locked. Losing a super cheap entry level hauler to a wannabe pirate really isn't something that should put you off.

I also believe that pirates (skilled ones anyway) don't generally bother camping customs offices because there simply isn't any real reward in it. The first time you have a red warp in on you can be very scary but don't consider this to be the norm.
