I have never played dust and don't really care to, but i will say I played ps2. It is a horrible game. I mean terrible IMHO. It is so boring and ridiculous I don't know why people play it.

I was thinking about getting one, but the PS4 is coming out in the fall...

I might get that so I can play Planetside on it. (I don't like PC FPS's anymore, wears out my laptop keyboard).

I might download DUST, but the PS4 isn't going to be backwards compatible and I don't know if CCP knows how to move DUST to it

I just want to point out that FPS games are probably the worst possible games to play on a console. Controllers + real time precision aiming = massive incomprehensible failure. For the love of god, get Planetside on pc. It's worth a worn out laptop keyboard.

The ps3 has a keyboard and mouse BTW.

True, but the question should be if DUST's profit potential warrants more development given it's performance in 2013 and in light of recent news, the Planetside juggernaut will be there waiting for it.

no idea what the profits are but being f2p i'm sure it's making a decent bit, really they just need to do some advertising but CCP has never been great at that

I have no idea how DUST is doing in CCP's eyes and I haven't even played it. But my point was that whatever it made in 2013 (and whatever profit projection this extrapolates out to) is going to be probably cut in half at least when it's directly competing with PS2.

I can't imagine a scenario where it's better off when it hits PlayStation 4 than it was at launch on PS3. So the question CCP would have to ask itself is whether it's worth it

The target market for DUST begins and ends with EvE bittervets who are bored to death with the space game, too "HTFU" to ever play some bullshit kiddie themepark like STO or SWTOR, and were looking for an excuse to buy a console. Within that microscopic demographic, DUST will be the only FPS anyone would ever play. People who don't give a crap about and have never heard of EvE will play it for thirty seconds, uninstall, and never look back.

Shockingly accurate explanation of Dust's demographic. Makes me almost pity CCP in their decisions to create the game built around the audience, stuck between having to make the game fit the expectations of eve players and ignoring the need for a decent fps foundation which would have attracted other fps/console players.

What is a shame is that the community will never understand or learn about the profit loss/gain from CCP's little diversion of a title because I can only assume they loss quite a bit of resources from the whole deal.

I think the lasting legacy of Dust514 is a strong warning or wake up call to CCP for future projects outside of maintaining EVE(hopefully for another decade), considering their other ventures failed in such an abysmal fashion.

So what do you figure the odds are WoD Online will be coded for the PS4? Further, that it'll be in public open beta by and around the time the PS5 is 6 months from release?

I hope CCP has the sense to keep it on the pc, and ignore the ps4, and i hope public beta for WoD starts Q1 of 2014/

on a side note/
Imagine the woe of CCP if WoD crumbles like dust.
Why would any talented/upcoming designer sign on to that studio for that level of job security.

I am surprised many of you are shocked by this news. How many more FPS games move on to the greener pastures that is the console and controller before you accept that a FPS on the PC is a dead market? Blink

Well SOE does stand for Sony Online Entertainment. The Playstation is made by Sony.

Makes sense to me.

Now, more than ever, we need a dislike button.

Arma3, battlefield, crysis, RO2/RS, TF, PS2, BlackLight, CS:GO and many more argue against the statement of any decay of pc fps or its market.

I got a ps3, just to play Dust, it was a big mistake. This was my first console ever. I'm still shocked how bad the graphics are. I really can't remember when i last played a game with such a poor resolution, that must be over 10 years back or something.

Go look at FPS sales on a console versus a PC. Post your findings here.

Posting sales figures wouldn't prove or negate my comments made. CoD selling double digit numbers on consoles doesn't suddenly mean pc developing studios jump boats for console exclusive markets. Their will always be a strong market for pc fps regardless of other hardware. I'd argue that instead of fps dying out on pc, more are being developed.

it does? funny. always thought it stood for MemoryLeak Online Entertainment. their games sure are full of them. that's why planetside is still laggy when you run it on a decent computer.

I ask you to find hard evidence and you dismiss it declairing that your personal opinion is all that matters. Lol

Prove to me factually this is a correct statement "FPS on the PC is a dead market." I can already tell the type of evidence your'll struggle to find and why it's irrelevant.

Arguments are a two-way street.

PS2 is great fun until you realise just how wide spread the hacks are.

Aimbot, ESP, no bullet drop, no bullet spread, infinite ammo, no clip, teleportation...etc etc etc

You can say that you've never seen it therefore it isn't true, but I've done it so therefore it is true. You can't see the guys hiding in walls/terrain unless you have the ESP hack active.

Dust 514 is your typical battlefield styled FPS. The only way to make it successful is if they give players some feeling of attachment like they do with eve. As it stands it is slightly better than warframe and slightly worse than Battle field. Why are games like league of legends so successful? Variety, investments, and competitive play, when you combine these elements into a game you end up with the formula required to make it long lasting. Dust has investments, a little variety with vehicles, and is as competitive as a FPS can get. "getting head shot by a 13 year old boy who plays 60 hours a week." However it is not original and just like battlefield 2142 it will die off within a year of its iteration.

The best thing CCP can do for themselves is try and make it an e-sport. The second best thing they can do for themselves is not to waste a single dime further into the FPS market or Dust 514 and try to break even. Just because my view point and opinion goes this way doesn't mean I dislike CCP as a developer. I, like others, see it as a mistake and I'll be around to enjoy other products they develop in the future.

Something clever
