Combat Boosters

I'm unsure how the side effects of using these are applied.

1. Can more than one side effect be applied from one use? ie a booster will have 4 potential side effects each with a 20% chance of being applied, is that:
.1 x 20% chance and then if unlucky 1 random side effect
.1 x 20% chance and then if unlucky all 4 side effects
.4 x 20% chances, one for each side effect.
2. Am I told that the side effect is in place, or do I have to notice my ship handling differently.
3. If I do get the side effect, do I still get the boost?
4. If I get a side effect can I pop a second booster and overwrite the first?

Thanks in advance.

1) You can get hit by all of them;

2) No;

3) Yes;

4) No, you have to wait until the first booster ends.

You can mitigate the potential side-effects by training Nanite Control and Neurotoxin Recovery.

Yes. The booster(s) you consumed, the duration and any negative effects will be shown in your char sheet in the "Augmentations" tab.

Thank you for your replies so far, most helpful.

I have a follow on question. With Neurotoxin Recovery, this reduces by 5%, the chance of the side effect occurring. Does that mean that at Level 4, the chance for a Standard booster side effect is completely negated? Or is it a 20% reduction down to a 16% chance?

It is?

What a logical place to put it Roll

I know what I'll do now I've popped a blue and am being hammered left right and centre by people violencing my boat - I'll open the character sheet.

Where the hell do they get these idiot UI "designers"? Does CCP just wander out onto the street and grab the first passing fisherman they see?

Unbelievable. Thanks for correcting me though Smile

Virtually all bonuses in EvE are percentage of original value.

Only bonus I can think of that is a flat out addition are the "+5m^3 drone bay size" style of bonuses.

Its not like checking out the side effects would do you any good in that situation anyway; not much you can do about it at that point.

However if you pop a pill before possibly venturing out, then you could check for side effects and possibly refit/prepare differently as necessary.

I suppose a text box popup could be put in effect saying if you got a side effect and what it was but, do you really want that blocking your view?

You aren't going to pop boosters until the fight has got properly started Emperor.

They are both expensive and a pain in the backside to move around in Empire.

A tip for anyone popping blue pill - do it ASAP cos if you get hit with all the drawbacks you are going to struggle to boost shield up if you're primary. Do it early doors. Blue pills are epic fun for fishing Lol

Edit - no to text box. Could have a hazard symbol somewhere if you are affected though? Mouseover and it tells you the worst? I assume the worst anyway.

As a rule of thumb I only use boosters in ships I am comfortable with having the side-effects.

Example: blue pill great in AC cyclone, not so great in raven.

Thank you.

This is the way that CCP usually implement their modifiers (but not always). However, in this case, that seems an incredibly poor result for a tier 5 skill.

That means that at level 5, a standard booster side effect chance is reduced from 20% to 15%. That alone is poor, but with the strong booster, a 40% chance is reduced to 30% and bear in mind there are 4 possible side effects, each with that chance.

It seemed to me more logically that this would be one of the exceptions applied additively. Level 4 would remove completely the side effects of the Standard booster and Level 5 would reduce the Improved chance to 5% and the Strong chance to 15%.

If that isn't the case, I can't believe that anybody would ever use them, nevermind actually training the skill.

The affects are like implants; they stay with your clone. If you want to, you could pop a booster and if you got a bad roll on the side effects, then jump clone to a new clone and try again. Of course if you get a worse roll on the new JC you're screwed because of your JC timer. But there is a mechanic in game to help avoid the downsides if they're too much.

Also note that the synth quality boosters have no side effects, but I bet you already knew this.

Umm obviously?

Frankly I never (unless fishing) pop it until I know I couldn't care less about the side-effects Lol I get that wrong quite a bit with blue pill hence the recommendation that you pop it early on in the fight.

I rarely get hit with side effects with all the skills at 4 for combat boosters and I use improved to strong boosters. Will just max them out soon.

Maxing mine out now, though I mostly use them because people forget to put rules against their use in alliance cruiser / frigate tournaments (much like expensive implants). Also, watch out for concord space, just dont go through there with them...believe me, I lost a proteus carrying 3 strong exile's.
