Hey guys,

A guy at work convinced me to come back to Eve and I'm excited to get back into the theory of it all but after 2 years there is a mixture of I can't remember what I was aiming towards and of course things have changed in patches etc.

Current skill sheet is as follows:
http://eveboard.com/pilot/infinite_Abyss

A pitiful 13m skill points but I remember I was getting somewhere.

Anyway looking at what's changed in the game and my current skill set has anyone got any recommendations what I should work towards? I'm generally a loner / small squad player, enjoy the idea of smaller more advanced ships than the big ones (currently in a Ishkur) and this is my combat character (with an Iteron Mark V for hauler).

2 years ago I liked the idea of exploration but no idea what happened to that? There is just so much for me to catch up on and I'm making this post to sort of get me started while I research more (no point wasting training time ;))

This week's expansion iterated on Exploration, so it's a good time to check that out (although it's also a bad time, since it's new and everyone's doing it). Read up on it... most of the old guides are still useful. Scanning still works basically the same way as it used to, but the specifics of it and the UI have changed a bit. And notably, Radar and Magnetometric sites (now called Data and Relic) now have no NPCs and require a minigame. That's good or bad, depending on how you feel about minigames (it's pretty simple). There's some preliminary guides floating around on the forums now.

Yes, you were "getting somewhere".
You have a good start on a good character.

My standard line is:
You don't really need MORE skills, you just need BETTER skills.

Stay with the 2 races you have for now.
Get your tanking skills to IV's and eventually V's is the goal.
Drones looked good.
Gunnery supports are as important as the gun itself. Put some time into those support skills.
Commit to a few more of those lower level V's, in drones and gunnery.

Welcome Back Cool

You have a lot of 3's which brought to 4 would help a good deal. Particularly core skill categories like Engineering, Electronics, and Navigation. You may want to look at Electronic Drone Interfacing in the Drones Category. Not only does it open up ewar drones, but it extends your drone control range for all drones (not just ewar).

Otherwise stay focused, keep things simple, work on the aforementioned core skills. In another 10 to 15m you're golden.

My strategy is as indicated above, train up those skills that are common to most ships first ie core skills. They aren't very exciting but give you the most benefit. Welcome back, I've had the same thoughts recently after 3+years away
