It's hitting, yes, but much of the US media has their tongues so far up Barack's butt they taste his food before he does.

And while there will be those who scream "Bush started it!", which he undoubtedly did, they will be deathly silent when Hussein refuses to end it.

When you consider the blackmail potential of such a total surveillance apparatus, the actions of government officials begin to make a great deal more sense.

I remember everyone being shocked that Chief Justice Roberts accepted the government's argument for Obamacare. We shouldn't be: he's gay, and was blackmailed.

"How do I know he's gay?" you ask. No straight man smiles like that.

At a certain point we, as a nation, are going to have to choose one of three paths. Either we demand the surveillance state be dismantled, we allow ourselves to be bound in a mental prison by fear of blackmail, or we adopt a "LIKE A BOSS" mentality to all our dirty little secrets and perverted Google searches.

In the interest of self interest, and to embark down the latter path, I just want to say here so that I can never be blackmailed by our NSA overlords:

Tentacles.

Yeah.

LIKE A BOSS.

Surely Fox News must be loving this, no disrespect to Vile Rat but isn't this a bigger, actual scandal to sink their teeth into?

Also Tentacles like a boss!

Well FoxNews is quoting the New York Times. So watch out for flying pigs and falling pig poop.

Oh wait, Fox is trying to whitewash the Bush Patriot Act, http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2013/06/06/author-patriot-act-says-phone-records-collection-excessive/, by saying the bill's sponsors didn't mean for it to go that far. FFS, the NSA had wiretap rooms running directly in telephone company facilities immediately after the Patriot Act passed.

/facepalm

And more fuel for the fire, the NSA is building a $860 million data center in Maryland. 600k square feet, 60 megawatts of power. In addition to the 1.5 billion dollar one in Utah.

I wonder what we're building in conjunction with our overseas allies?

We always knew this was going on anyway.

The very sun of heaven seemed distorted when viewed through the polarising miasma welling out from this sea-soaked perversion, and twisted menace and suspense lurked leeringly in those crazily elusive angles of carven rock where a second glance shewed concavity after the first shewed convexity.

Apparently its rated Top Secret, no foreign governments allied or otherwise told or informed about it.

And its targeted at foreign entities, European press will be waking up to this soon and will have a field day about American paranoia. It's crossing a line if this includes data from nominal allies, though on the plus side it will drive traffic to domestic search engines.

somehow i'm not surprised.

In a few moments you will have an experience that will seem completely real. It will be the result of your subconscious fears transformed to your conscious awareness.

James Clapper, the Director of National Intelligence, just released a letter copping to and essentially declassifying the program.

No worries though -- he says there's a secret court that protects us and we can trust the government not to abuse the power.

And he said the whistleblower is a real douchebag for telling us.

Phew!

I feel better now.

SCANDAL. OVER.

I was tempted to get an iPhone, see what the fuss was about, was upgrading from my Samsung Omnia 7, Windows 7 phone. Honestly after messing around with Android for a few days I think I prefer the Windows Phone as an interface, I kid you not.

This isn't about Obama (or Bush.) It's that the snooping is now (or very close to being) systemic, ingrained, budgeted, and otherwise now part of the "system." Will the next president or next congress be able to undo the damage? Doubtful.

I just have to say that governments were initially created as the common man can not be trusted either. Just saying. The problems we have with government are just large and obvious examples of the inherent flaws of the human condition.
