laser crystals, limbo space, and you

The following is a conversation excerpt about a way to "lose" T1 frequency crystals. It stemmed from having overheard somebody in local state a T1 crystal was destroyed after using it for several months, which confused pretty much everybody.

tl:dr -> swapping frequency crystals too fast can get them locked in a 'limbo space' until you reload again, this could be fixed with a reload timer just like every other weapon in the game uses ... why don't they have a reload timer, anyway? Also, a queue command for all weapons to stop, change ammo, & keep firing would be nice.

[23:43:21] Decarthado Aurgnet > you mean the t1's?
[23:43:25] Aplier Shivra > yeah
[23:45:27] Aplier Shivra > if you try to swap crystals too fast, one of them might get "lost in translation" and not show up in your cargo bay or on your guns, and be in "limbo space".
[23:45:53] Aplier Shivra > and because you no longer have the number of crystals in cargo required to refill your grouped weapons, it will fail before it even tries.
[23:46:00] Decarthado Aurgnet > huh. that could be fixed pretty easily if there were some kind of reload timer just like with every other weapon in the game.
[23:47:01] Aplier Shivra > but by ungrouping the weapons, and refilling one with the crystal type in question, it pulled it out of the limbo space and all was good again
[23:47:54] Aplier Shivra > and my suggestion would be to rather allow swapping crystals to happen in one click without the deactivate, reload, reactivate
[23:48:42] Decarthado Aurgnet > i'd only ever think about allowing that if you could queue up a stop/reload/reactivate for all weapons, including drone dock/launch commands
[23:48:49] Aplier Shivra > because weapons already fire at the start of their cycle instead of at the end, you should be able to right click and select the new ammo at any time and have it start the next cycle with that type (or after a 10 second delay for non lasers)
[23:50:17] Decarthado Aurgnet > it's beyond me why lasers don't have that reload delay. i mean, swapping a bigass crystal into the chamber isn't exactly an instant effect.
[23:51:04] Aplier Shivra > maybe it's because it's only changing one (although big) unit, instead of loading in hundreds or thousands of little missiles or projectiles
[23:52:02] Decarthado Aurgnet > i don't buy it. The thousands of projectiles would sensibly be packaged in a chaingun box or some such thing. Even putting the crystals in a 6-shooter style revolving chamber wouldn't be instant.
[23:55:12] Aplier Shivra > well, I can't come up with a much better thematical explanation of why it's instant, but from how it affects the way I fly, being able quickly swap crystal types to maximies damage/optimal is a definite part of how I play
[23:56:13] Decarthado Aurgnet > if they did that for the other weapon types, then you'd better believe everyone else would take advantage of it as well. Still, from a programmer's perspective this limbo space problem should be addressed in addition to the question of reload mechanics
[23:56:18] Aplier Shivra > I couldn't imagine how... clunky.. it would feel using any other weapon
[23:56:25] Aplier Shivra > yes, I agree with that
[23:59:02] Aplier Shivra > I still think that having the entire stop/reload/(wait if necessary)/fire process handled by the server in one click by the player would be the optimal way to solve it, even if it requires adding in a short delay (maybe 0.5 or 1 second) for lasers
[23:59:47] Aplier Shivra > the commands are already in place, so programming it in shouldnt be too hard, rather than requiring player input for each, have one line just lead to the next
[00:00:12] Decarthado Aurgnet > or at least five seconds for lasers to bring them in line with all the other weapons
[00:00:25] Aplier Shivra > shhhhh, one second is enough time for the server to handle it
[00:00:29] Aplier Shivra > ^_^

Remove T2 BPO's or make them inventable at extreme cost.
