I'm starting to see why EVE has such a devoted fanbase. Of the few genuine science fiction oriented MMO's that are out there, EVE is far and away the most beautifully rendered and feature rich in all respects that I've ever come across. Simply awesome.

Cool

Don't forget the chronicles on the website. It's the deepest and richest in that aspect too. I've never ever ever seen an mmo or another game as a matter a fact with that amount of story behind it.

yup I'm one of those nerds that loves to read.

And if reading is not the thing for you, there are people who are making recordings of the chronicles so you can listen to them like an audio book Big smile

And welcome to EVE and glad your enjoying it so far! Just remember to be patient, take your time with it and dont rush towards your next ship. Read the forums, guides and similar. Get help from corp members and dont let the game overwhelm you.
If you rush it, or try to, you will find your self getting burned out really fast.

Good luck Smile

CCP is one of the few video game developers who has enough of their own money that they don't need investors/publishers. Which means that they don't have investors telling them to change things.

I remember back when CCP purchased White Wolf. There was a major increase in the quality of the chronicles when White Wolf writes got the job of writing them.

As for why CCP purchased White Wolf, I like to think it was a case of CCP looking at World of Darkness and saying: Nice setting you have there. We'll take it.

Sci-fi is probably my favorite genre, which is why I find EVE particularly brilliant. The lore is HUGE and the way it's all represented in-game through the mechanics, social interaction etc is very, very impressive. Practically endless!

There's actually a fairly decent RP community around too :D

It's amazing what a good set or RP can do to make you really feel like you're there. Books can go suck it, reading AND interacting with the universe at the same time is just amazingly immersive.

As far as Chronicles go one of my favorites was the mercenary series: http://community.eveonline.com/backstory/chronicles/the-mercenaries-part-one/

(There's 4 parts)

Also things like explaining Aura, Quafe, and the other pirate factions and items in the game.

I approve of Eve quasi-worship. Yet, I am strangely uncomfortable with the Tolkien reference.
