Standard procedure when without book marks.

Note undesirables in local -----> warp to planet or moon @45 degrees or < from gate, scan, warp to gate.

When you travel it doesn't matter if you are in a pod, shuttle or frigate. A well skilled and prepared SB Battleship will toast your ship and pod in one cycle. The ones who are doing nothing else are usually in a cloaky Tech 3, BS or Black Ops with faction sb's. Even if you dscan the gate from an off-grid spot it will not help 100% because these guys sit 10km cloaked off the gate's warp-in line and wait till they see something on short scan to decloak and hit F1 when you appear on grid.

So the only way to get around it to warp at 100 to a near planet first and then to the gate. Some systems have some gates far off any celestials and this might be a problem when you are in a pod only and you can't warp to the gate off the straight line from the specific in-gate where usually the most traffic comes from. You should warp at 100km to check if there's a cloaky SB BS because it will decloak when you appear on short scan for sure. I would anyway recommend to use a shuttle or better a fast Frig to move to a spot at the top, right or left of that kind of isolated gate and warp from there when the gate is camped by SB gankers.

The alternative is just to dump cap and warp so they see you on scan.

In general though, if a durka has been set up properly you have sweet **** all chance of not dying. That's why RnK durkas are now almost legendary Smile

FYI the targeting delay after decloaking also applies to the activation of smartbombs - you can't decloak then instantly cycle them.

It's the end of the world as we know it and I feel fine.

Thats why he waits until you are on a short scan, and doesn't wait until you are on grid.

There is not much you can do about sb gate camps if you fly small ships. Yes you can set up safespots on every gate and warp there instead of to the gate but, I think for me, that would mean the hassle of playing eve would outweigh the fun.

…also, a single blast from a full rack of smartbombs equates to 2,400 EHP damage. It's pretty easy to survive even in a small ship

Unless your in a BlackOps then you don't get the targeting delay. Even with a standard BS a good smartbomber will do a dscan at a set range and as soon as your on scan he will decloak and by the time you show up the targeting delay is gone.

Go to every gate you might possibly use on a roam and mark all the spots you might land on that gate from other gates/popular stations. Then when that is done find a spot that is outside of smart bomb range from all those spots and set it as a safe jump spot. Then always warp to your safe jump spot as opposed to warping to the gate.

No I have not actually done this. But it is about the only way to avoid sb camps if you are in a pod or small ship. Have fun.

In systems I frequent, I make a few tactical bookmarks. A spot 150-250 km away from the gate, off center from your entry vector will avoid smartbombs and allow you to consider the risk of jumping when people are camping. Also a close by, off-grid spot for directional scanning may be useful. Same for any station you use and of course instant warpoffs for those stations.

Come prepared, stay alive. Remember, the best tank always is being elsewhere.
