World News

Is that the end of the current updates? I thought they were building up to something with Odyssey's launch, as has happened with previous expansions. Anyone know or heard anything?

I believe that is all. Not all EVE expansions had major news stories associated with them. As a matter of fact, if I recall correctly, only two of them actually had any significant news presence: Apocrypha (the Seyllin disaster) and Empyrean Age (Elder Fleet attacks + reclamation of the Caldari Prime). There have been two additional big news stories that are not directly associated with any major expansion deployment, but are precursors to the Empyrean Age expansion: the Malkalen incident and the CONCORD-Elder Fleet standoff.

I understand that and know we can't have world shaking events/news all the time. But we haven't heard the CEP decision on Heth, the Armarr seem oddly quiet and Minmatar/Gallente relations looked to be breaking but have settled down again. I just thought there would be a little wrap-up or revalation during downtime yesterday.

Odyssey's page has a feature listed

"Storyline Progression

The shared EVE Universe storyline continues to evolve following the Battle for Caldari Prime, with participatory events spawning unique player stories in two games at once. The timeline of events from the very first passage through the EVE Gate to present day are chronicled and on display at the new EVE.com website."

Which, I guess, lead me to believe there'd be something a little more....

It seems like CCP has abandoned the idea of only releasing storyline content to culminate with expansions, which they talked about at last fanfest.

I for one am very happy with this development, and I'd much rather have the storyline unfold at an organic pace rather than unbelievably rushed for expansion releases.

it's been only five days since the latest news article. The sky's not falling yet.

In terms of story updates and when we get them, I think it's fine now.

To me it seems that the Battle for Caldari Prime was a "test" of how things will work with story in EVE. CCP always like to say that players influence the story of EVE, but up until that live event, ZERO aspects of the story line were decided because of us players. Everything was scripted or happened behind the scenes entirely.

Now we are moving in a better direction, with players deciding the outcome of storylines in EVE. I'm hoping the next big event will be a military coup or civil war in the Caldari State. Capsuleers either helping Heth stay in power and unifying the State as a single entity, or fighting against him and preserving the independence of the mega-corps.
