Is there a premier weapon to use for close range? I know torpedoes and pulse lasers are close range. Which one do u guys prefer?

When you just want to melt someone and you can get yourself into hugging-distance, nothing beats the good ol' blasters. Preferably from a 1000dps proteus. It's the official greeting in wormhole-space

Aside from Blasters (Which I really like) Torps are my favorite, because:

Selectable Damage type
'Up Close' really means 24ish KM. Anything within point range

Torp Typhoon and Torp Scorp (Navy Scorp) are both great ships. Torp Raven is more or less... primary, but it has great DPS as long as it lives.

Not bashing Pulses in any way. Scorch ammo is pretty great stuff too.
Pulse's deliver mostly EM damage. Great against some races, not so much on other races. Amarr BS have great tank though, kinda compensates for that.

MY favorite BS? Torp Typhoon

Sadly torps have crap damage application, there is no 'best' close range weapon it depends on many factors. If you're thinking of just straight up slugging it @ point blank with perfect application then blasters will be the best. However in a real combat situation each has its strengths and weaknesses, in a nutshell:

Autocannons: Selectable damage type, decent projection, decent tracking, capless, but loses dps to falloff
Pulse Lasers: Scorch is amazing, instant ammo swap, no reloads, but massive cap train, worst tracking
Blasters: Best dps, best tracking, but short range, consumes cap
Rockets/Torps/HAMs: Decent range, decent dps, capless, selectable damage type but torps suffer from horrible damage application, HAMs and Rockets are better though.

I made 1350 dps(without drones) navy scorpion. 1 explosion radius rig. When i used eft to see dps against a cruiser with zero velocity it went down to 70. Are u guys going heavy on target painters to kill anything smaller than a bs?

Short answer yes, long answer it's more complicated than that. Golem's for LvL 4's will often use (3) Faction TP's. Even then with max skills and 5% Implants you will never hit a Cruiser for 100% damage. If you don't mind sacrificing another mid you can add a Web which will at least help with Explosion Velocity, but ofc you'd have to be fighting against ships that are in close enough to use that Web.

Blasters do the highest applicable damage. Autocannons have the best range with very decent damage. Pulse Cannons give an in between of range-dmg but allow you to swap dmg types. Torpedoes with the right skills will hit 100% of the time within the range of the Missile itself for at least some amount of damage when the other 3 can miss entirely (short of Defender Missiles or the ship moving a Ludicrous Speed).

The Operative: "There are a lot of innocent people being killed in the air right now".

Capt. Malcolm Reynolds: "You have no idea how true that is".

Depends on the situation. If you are talking about knife fighting range, definitely blasters... the trick though is getting there.

Otherwise, I'd probably go AC assuming PvP.

Blasters are generally the highest damage, best tracking weapons in the game. Their drawback, they are pretty short range and deal only kinetic+Them.

Autocannons are also excellent damage and good tracking, and have the ability to change ammo to deal different types of damage (shooting the resist holes of your opponent significantly increase effective damage).

Pulse Lasers are good damage but with not-so-great tracking (and only deal EM+Therm). They are balanced by having excellent damage projection (range), especially with Scorch!

I would say despite blasters being highest dps(but you do need someone to hold the person down for you as you light them on fire with your neutrons... if we are going for just pure reliability and versitility, i would says torps and autocannons are the way to go.

Blasters as highest applicatble dps no argument but they also take alot of cap..so get used to having cap boosters in your mids. and since you need to be close you been have some plan to takle them.

Autocannons are like an Ak-45, they work very well good damage good tracking, and can change damage, dont use cap only problem is thier fall-off, dps tends to go down

missles, are awesome, they almost awlays hit, and as long as you have got skills and some target painters will hit above 80% dmg... just takes some skill trainning to get there.

Pulse lasers. are nice but again use alot of cap and just dont do want blasters can and dont have the options like torps and autocannons do

My primary weapon for close range is Drones. Shocked

I'd be willing to bet they are the most used close range weapon for solo PvE in eve. Idea

LOL, the OP is still trying to figure out how to make a shiney BS that will roll over and kill anything at all. Still, at least he's let go of the Widow idea and is now onto Navy BSs. Eventually he'll work his way down to ships that can actually choose their fights and win them.
