Is solo suicide ganking miners still viable?

I've been googling and doing my homework, but most of the information I can find on this was basically; it was easy to do before the mining barge buff and now it requires a team of people to do it.

Is there still a ship in the game that is reasonably cheap to lose but still has the power to take down a retriever on its own before CONCORD blasts it to bits?

t2 catalysts can still do retrievers in 0.7
or bring 2 meta catalysts, much cheaper.

4 t2 cats should be able to kill most exhumers in 0.7

in 0.8 and above you should be using alpha doctrines.

Check Psychotic Monk's website. He ran the numbers.

But yes it is, however it is much less expensive as a duo.

The numbers I'm getting with EFT indicate that a Catalyst at its theoretical max DPS of 706 could take down anything with about 11.000 EHP in a 0.6 system before concord shows up. But 11.000 EHP in most cases means that the ship isn't tanked or is poorly tanked, so any decently tanked ship is off limits and would require a second Cat to take down.

Thanks for the info, guess solo ganking wasn't as easy as it once was Sad

Why don't you just try it instead of doing all this theorizing with fancy tools? Sometimes strapping yourself in the saddle for a wild ride is the best way to find out for yourself.

However, if you are concerned with how one guy might be tanked, why not just find a nice chunk of ice with multiple ships on it and unleash a disco show? Surely you will kill at least 1...

Because if I'm gonna do something, I want to do it right the first time Cool

I've not looked into disco ships yet (in fact I only recently heard the term 'disco' for the first time). Got any recommendations?

Because people who macro 20 accounts get under my skin. They shouldn't, but they do. So I'm gonna blow them up to make the problem go away.

You do sound like New Order material.

This means that you get an alt or a friend to fleet with that can warp the the belt/anom in something unassuming like a Venture or scanning ship. This person then passive locks others, and uses a ship scanner to check for fitted tanking modules. When you find the dummy that didn't fit any, this person also closes range and provides a handy 'warp to zero' so that you can deliver instadeath.

Running your alt around, Jamey?

And about disco, i'm unsure it would work. Some guy named Rohak Burko tried it twice nonconsecutively and failed to kill even an untanked retriever (50% into structure, approximately), You could probably look his fit to see what you need to pull it off ( meaning, probably bigger bombs)

Max dps Catalyst is 773.3. With that said, you can solo gank Exhumers in 0.5-0.6 (0.7 if you're REALLY lucky). "solo" ganking just refers to how many dps gank boats are on the KM, you will need a scout despite what anyone says. It makes your life extremely easier and can not only scan the ship down for type of tank, but also set up the warp ins.

Think about it in seconds, that's what it all comes down to. Use EFT or Pyfa to figure out the targets EHP by the specific damage types. Divide that number by your dps to determine if it's worth your time. Odds are they wont have all V skills in integrity. Let's say you find a Hulk. It has 14k EHP and you do 700 dps. Let's also factor that the Hulk pilot is only 3 months old and probably lacks integrity skills. That 14k probably looks more like an 11-12k. However, this is the tricky part, because now you're making educated guesses. Most of the time they will be right, sometimes they're not. I digress, Let's say it's 12k EHP, you're looking at about 17 seconds which would require a definite 0.6 pre-pull, or a 0.5 non-pre-pull.

Just pick and choose.

Abandon all hope ye who x up in fleet

This "New Order" intruiges me. I've spent all my life being a high sec carebear and frankly, it's getting dull. The idea of seeing explorers as targets rather than competitors greatly appeals. =3

They run a ship replacement program, although you might not need it because quite a lot of ships and fittings are provided by donors for use by the Knights of the New Order. You will get tons of helpful advice, tips, and guidance for existing knights. You might choose to join in with other knights for your first few ganks, just to learn the mechanics.
Once you get to know the knights and the knights get to know you they run quite a few larger gank operations like orcas. Each week the best kills get posted, so you can get an idea of what they are up to.
If you are looking to get started in suicide ganking, in a safe comfortable environment with friendly experienced gankers to help you learn the ropes on the path to salvation, then there's no better place to learn than with James 315 and the New Order of high sec. Also as you learn, you will be providing the Eve community a valuable service at the same time by upholding the code. Become an Eve hero whilst learning to gank, what more could you ask for?

You can even spy on them if you think you're clever, but they do ask for a donation of 200 Million from spies.

Give it a shot. Just don't podkill until you are ready for the -10 life (gank with a -10 friend, they'll be happy to pop any pods you liberate from exhumers)
