Issue caused with switching to other monitor

When I switch the client to my other monitor, it tends to hang. Here is what I do:

1. Have 2x monitors
2. Start eve client
3. Login to character screen
4. Switch to other monitor
5. continue to login into game (Character is in station)
6. It hangs with a loading screen in station

Alternatively:

1. Start eve client
2. Switch to other monitor
3. Login to eve then click a character to load into game
4. It hangs in station saying it is loading.

Anyone else encountering this issue?

I currently do not, because my monitors are handled as one giant surface by the gpu. however, if they are handled separately, going between one and the other output can cause issues.

are you able to select the corresponding output in the esc menu under Display & Graphics -> Display Adapter?

The easy fix for this is to switch into hanger mode or quit and restart and it should default to that monitor and work fine. For some reason it can't load the captains quarters after you have switch monitors.

You will also notice that most of your textures don't load after switching monitors , I have this same issue which makes doing PI hard since you cant see the planets :).

PS

Specs
Win 8 Pro
Intel i7 3820
680gtx (at work so I'm not sure about the drivers , they are fairly new)

worked fine before Odyssey

I have this problem. Using 3 clients on 3 screens (same resolution), worked without problems before odyssey, but now the textures fails to load more often than not when I'm trying to switch screens. This combined with the launcher initiating the client on the screen where it was initiatied last makes it annoying to setup the multiboxing...

Edit:
PC specs:
Win 7 Pro 64bit
8GB RAM
Intel I7-2700K
Geforce GTX 670 2GB (314.07 driver, should probably update that...)

have you tried switching the gpu via the Display & Graphics drop-down menu? without using it, you might have a situation of "one hand doesn't know what the other is doing"

ie the client is being handled by one output's resources, and displayed on another.

sorry, yes. i switch between monitors by hitting escape -> and choosing display adapter there. I also forgot to mention that I play in Fixed Window.

what are the hardware specifics? card, RAM, processor, motherboard.

if it's a dell or other off-the-shelf computer, the model number works too.

CPU: Intel Core i7 920 @ 2.67GHz
Ram: 6 gigs
Win 7 64 bit
Graphics Card: AMD Radeon HD 6900 Series.

I can play the game if I don't switch between monitors. Just wanting to let CCP be aware that this happens when I switch windows in case someone else has the same issue.

I'm afraid to break eyefinity to test this

When i start the client, i see my ships fine, if i switch the client to my other monitor using these steps:

ESC
Display and Graphics
Display Adapter
(choose other monitor)

my ship flying in space will become invisible with only the viewports displaying, If i switch back to the original monitor, this glitch remains. Logging back in, it will be fine, until I switch client to another monitor or start up a second client. This didn't happen until odyssey.

I have this same issue as well (Radeon HD 5870 card).

What I've figured out so far: it's the station environment that is the issue; the game isn't "hung", it just never loads the station environment properly and it seems like you can't do much.

Turns out the game isn't suck though - if you push F10 for example, it will bring up the map screen and you can interact with the game at that point. You can bring up the esc menu for example and disable loading station environments.

I'm at the point now where when this happens, I can click "go to ship hanger" or whatever and can play at least. Very annoying though.

When I jump, it also seems to black screen on the tunnel effect although it's fine going in, and you emerge out the other side fine. I think it's related though as when the station environment is loading correctly, I see the jump animation normally.

Niss that sounds like how retribution broke a 7970 of mine, and I had it RMA'd and then didn't have issues. by broke, I mean the client suddenly stopped working properly and would cause random, hard system lockups. I think it's beyond doubt when it occurs after an expansion and client patch.

I had a feeling maybe it was a memory bandwidth issue, made worse by having the client handled on one channel/output of the card, then passed to the other to be displayed. I'm afraid to touch my Eyefinity arrangement, since the RAM is identical between the dual video cards, and the outputs are somewhat more connected.

the trade off is I can't fullscreen my clients, and have to deal with the border of a regular window. but I'll deal with it.

I wish I could be more help. there was no solution offered on the previous video card thread (it seemed Radeon 7000 series specifically).

It's helpful discussing it in any case :).

Can totally confirm the OP's symptoms: this is definitely related to effecting a change of monitor after starting the client (doesn't matter if you log all the way in...any change of display monitor will cause the issue).

If you start the client and log in normally, the station environment will load, I can see the jump tunnel effect...all is well.

If you start the client and change the display monitor, the station environment will not load (system "appears" to hang, but is not hung...push F10 to bring up map and you can interact with everything as you'd expect), and you don't see jump tunnel effects.

This is more annoying than fatal as the workaround is easy enough: if you need to change the monitor on which your fixed window client is displaying, do it after the client launches, exit the client and start it again - then log in. Everything should be fine on both clients (although you may have to start, move, kill and restart both clients depending what order you intend to start them up).

Hopefully they're aware of this---it may well be related to my video card or drivers (ATI Radeon HD 5870, latest drivers) rather than a widespread issue, but still :). I'll file a petition in-game to report the bug I guess. Anyone else suffering from this issue probably should do the same. Better it be on their radar than not.
