You know, I see this kind of chit chat quite often on these forums. So, I'll just ask it.

What the hell job do people have where they can play Eve instead of doing stuff that their employer is paying them for? I'll bet these are the same people that bleat that their colleagues (who are no doubt picking up the slack) are out to get them when they ultimately end up with an unsatisfactory rating at appraisals and no pay rises/promotions etc. I'm willing to bet that their real life CVs are a littany of rage-quits and eighteen months at a time at each employer because everyone in the world is getting wrong about them being a lazy, whining, clown.

Cue all the "I'm the CEO of a Fortune500 company" claims.

[insert random rubbish that irritates you personally] is further evidence that Eve is dying/thriving*

Ice harvesting wasn't a particularly high-attention activity.

Here are some jobs which can be accomplished while ice harvesting in the background without disrupting productivity:

  • Programming (there's always downtime when tests are running, compiling is happening, deploying is happening, or you just need to sit back and unscramble your brain)
  • Clerical duties (reward yourself for opening and stamping 25 envelopes by moving some ice from the Mackinaw to the Orca)
  • Reception work (there is a limit to how much shinier you can shine that glass desk, and you're not always greeting people)
  • Network Operations Centre (things aren't always breaking, and you need something to fill in the idle hours on the graveyard shift)

The list could go on. But believe me when you have a job which requires people to respond quickly, you will have a lot of downtime. Otherwise your reception and customer service staff will end up having to make the customer wait while finishing off some piece of clerical work, and this is A Bad Thing™ for customer service.

In the old days, you'd expect these people to entertain themselves with Mills & Boon romances or Captain America graphic novels. Pre-Odyssey ice harvesting was even less attention-demanding than Mills & Boon.

What amazed me more than your actually being able to play video games when you're at work without getting fired is the idea that your workplace doesn't block the ports Eve uses and nobody appears to be looking at or caring much about network traffic.

I believe there's a bug in some systems that have before more than 1x ice belt, now instead of 3 ice belts that You can mine out and wait 4h there's only one ice belt that's keep respawning

You still don't get it, I couldn't care less about the isk, I make my money in nullsec, they could halve the isk amount for the highsec ice and I'd still mine it, because it's something to do while I'm bored at work waiting for stuff to happen.

This is a problem for me as it seems the 4 hour times will be often and I'm going to have a hard time getting the needed ice for my POS. I haven't checked on my NullSec Belt yet, but I'm hoping it's not the case there.

Not a game killer, but I won't be getting ice while at work anymore. Then again..

My work does. But I noticed we have something called the "visitors network" and its not behind the firewall. I use it for my eve playing. But.. when on it I cannot be on the work network which means I do not get work e-mail. So I'm stuck doing eve at lunch hour only.

I guess I could get a second computer and hook it up to the visitors network full time, but its not that important.

The ice belts seem to last for one hour with the current level of mining activity. This means you will see two spawns in a typical 9 hour work day in a typical system. You can just wait for them. Once they spawn you got an hour. As the miners cycle twice as fast now that should be sufficient for a POS.

and another non-answer, that does not tell me how it affects your game play... it's just something like I'm part of the group and the group says BLAH, if the group says jump off the bridge will you jump with them?

I probably would...haven't you read the bridge-jumping XKCD? It's quite convincing.

paraphrasing: Which is more likely? All of your presumably rational friends decide to jump off a bridge together for no reason at all, or that there's an out of control tanker truck, covered in flames, heading your way and about to crush you then explode on you, destroying you, the bridge, and everything on it? I'm not saying jump off as soon as they do, but the probability favors jumping being a good idea, so you should probably find out why they all jumped, run to the edge while you're finding out, and try to see if there's a 747 heading for the bridge or something. (Yes, every hundred years there's a wacky koolaid drinking party that you'd do well to opt out of, but there's a mass accident somewhere in the world roughly 432,193 times as often.)

metaphorically speaking, this would be a good time to open your eyes, and look around for a flaming tanker truck. A flaming tanker truck of logic.

Mine scordite instead, veldspar omber or plagioglase, same boring stuff.

EDIT: as far as I'm concerned, the less AFK alts there are the better this game will be.

FYI AFK alts are still paying customers which put money into CCP wallet which in returns pays the overhead which keeps the servers running. So what you are saying is EVE needs less accounts thus less expansions and less content am I correct?

    Hello All,

Ok I wanna say something here. I wanted to get some ice for a POS - not usually a big deal. I have spent over 2 hours flying around different regions trying to find some. There is none. I am not exaggerating - there's quite literally NONE.

I live in the Central US timezone. Downtime is over at around 6:30am here. So now i guess I have to be setting my alarm clock and getting up at the butt-crack of dawn to fracking ice mine before all the fracks with multiple accounts get it?

Yes i could sit in a system and wait for a respawn, but seriously? Four hours is a long time - i'd HAVE to sit there and monitor the ship scanner because I have no idea WHEN the respawn may happen, and when it DOES happen, it will all be gone in less than an hour.

I saw one person literally scream in Local yesterday when it all vanished. It was fracking hilarious. But I digress.

So I guess after all this whining and shedding of miner tears (you're welcome - enjoy) what I am saying is the FOUR HOUR wait is just too long. Here's what would make it better - you want us to work for it? Ok - I don't mind that, but make it FUN please CCP.

    1. Make both Ore Sites and Ice Sites probe-scannable sigs - NOT STUPID ANOMS that any noob in space diapers can find.

    2. Make them respawn after ONE hour.

    3. Make both types of sites BIGGER.

    Summary: SIGS. ONE-HOUR RESPAWN. BIGGER.

    That is all.

    Apollo.

PS. Look at this CCP. This is why the belts don't last long!
