Ship color schemes are manipulated via texture layers rendered by your graphics card, with all information locally stored for the shader effects, and have no effect on server lag.

We don't know the real reason why CCP hasn't rolled out paint jobs. They will say that, up to this point, all ships were not ready through the V3 process. That reason is now gone.

I suspect the real reason is CCP enjoys marketing special edition ships and is trying to milk it for all they can before they open the floodgates of color.

Yes i want this a nice set of drones that when launched orbit the ship and spray paint it to your choosing, then we could go and tag other ships. Titans would then be works of art or look like a complete mess either way sounds fun. Big smile

I must admit I quite like the idea of adding a bit of colour. But as stated some sort of pre-made colour chooser would probably be best, people in messy ships would just annoy me to much.

I don't really think it would merit the time the devs would need to work on it though.

Maybe someday....

Going a step further ships should be modular when they're built changing the physical look within that class.

Thats why we have ship classes in the Navy. An Arleigh Burke destroyer may look different then the one its parked next to due to slight design variations.

Paint schemes might be corporation specific, not player specific. With "Paint corporate scheme" an option with repair.

This ^

Plus most of us do not want to see pink [insert ship here] floating around in space. (sorry old Oneiros, you were special)

Server doesn't render graphics, all it would need to do is send the color values along wiht the rest of the ship info. A primary and secondary color is like what 6 extra bytes when the ship first lands on grid. Can't see much lag coming from that.

Not everyone bases what he wishes to see in Eve on whether there will be 400 man sov battles or not. Don't be selfish.

Most of the time i don't see any ship so near, that the colour could annoy me as much as some ugly avatar-faces Twisted

It would add to lag in large battles as said before...
or the future has no paint.

Besides it would be a 40 day skill burn to learn how to use the spray can...Lol

and then a 20 day burn to learn the right spray distance and of course each color would have a skill burn and then there is the dry time burn and, well you get the picture.

I doubt it. if that was the true reason, it would be completely moronic. They would bring in so much more overall sales if they 'cash shopped' dye/paint packs with limited amount of uses. Put them at a 5--25$ cost, introduce some new item like plex that can be purchased and then sold in game as a 2nd form of money trading. You then have people paying at least x to keep accounts active each month and then x y or z to do paint packages for the ships.

I suggest a new form of 'currency' like plex because I don't feel paints should run the same price; offering them in basic, bundle, and collection packs would be genius. Then allow the paints to be traded individually for isk. They could also release 'limited edition' paint packs to drum up paint hype and increase sales from time to time.

This is just a rugged concept that I literally just imagined but you can understand the basics.

No it wouldn't. The only 'lag' you would see is outdated machines playing EVE these days. For those machines they could incorporate a toggle to turn 'awesome hue's' off so you toaster users wouldnt burn your machines up.

"Ship appearance skill"" X20 that require new attributes and is only sold on the market by CCP for 30 billion

Everytime you read this you are required to send 100 million isk directly to me.

Or just make it a client side render so no one else has to see the colours.

there is already ways to client side change ship appearances. what people are wanting I think is the ability to show off their hideous creations to the rest of eve.

Yeah, that would be really nice!! I might even buy AUR if you could do custom paint jobs. Option to replace the default logo with your corp's logo would be cool too!
