I was told I can use EFT to see how much DPS my ship does against different ships, moving at speeds/vectors, taking into account sig size and all that kind of stuff.

I also wanted to test my lock on time against different ships

But Im not sure how to set it up. Can someone walk me through it?

make your fit, then make another fit, make sure to add all the pertinent modules to signature (hardeners add nothing, but shield extenders do, for example)

then go back to your fit, look for the lock time (the radar looking icon), it will be displayed in mm there but if you right click you'll get a menu, you can select a "preset" or "show lock time on setup" pick that one and pick your test target fit.

is EvE hq better for ship vs ship battle setup than EFT?

thanks for the lock on time for EFT got that. Any tips for EFT setting up DPS and whatever else EFT is capable of checking ship vs ship?

Just undock in the thing and go shoot something.

You'll know soon enough whether you need to modify your fittings. EFT has nothing to do with actual combat. It's to see if you can fit the stuff that you realize you need after being blown to kingdom come.

Just to add some to MrEpeen's nice post:
What type of combat?
What restrictions (like RvB EWAR restriction, or lowsec lack of bubbles)?

My experience has been, lock time matters when you get the jump on someone in a pocket, or when gate camping. For gate camps, just have another account or player remote sensor boost something with great scan resolution. For pockets, what are you trying to catch? An interceptor does well for a tackle. Fact is there is no uber fleet, where you can tackle everything, and kill everyone. Large fleets are not mobile enough to enter a system and kill and are about as subtle as a rhinoceros horn up the back side. Small fleets have a weekness, no matter who you are, usually balancing between being able to tackle small things, and being able to tank large things. If you are aware of that weakness, you should be fine and avoid it.

EFT does allow you to test DPS ship vs ship based on speed/vector/resists
